On election day 2008, America was handed a triumphant symbolic victory, albeit unfulfilled. To most of us, President-elect Obama was a largely ambiguous character onto whom many of us had attached our own psychological yearnings and contemplations.
The truth is, as always, revealed in the fullness of time. Much of the disparate patchwork that weaved together Obamas life story, the stuff that gave birth to his psychological outlook, was available to us before election 08. What was not available, however, was any informed analysis of how Obamas experiences would translate once Obama stopped campaigning and began actually governing.
Gawker is now reporting that the Times is preparing a story arguing that President Obama is depressed. According to a Gawker article published September 12th, Obama no longer finds joy in the political back-and-forth and has seemed increasingly listless to associates. It goes without saying that an article on the state of Obamas mental health is purely speculative since, without a report or prescription- from the Presidential doctor, theres no way of accurately discerning the Presidents mental fitness. But murmurings on whether Obama requires Zoloft or Wellbutrin does add another layer of context to the debate about what it means to be the first black President and the expectations that title carries.

The guy has always had some pretty serious mental defects... that was obvious to anyone who had been paying attention. He's not fit for any position of power, much less the presidency.
I don’t know about his own condition but he and his administration are sure DEPRESSING ME!
He certainly is depressing and not just to the economy.
sounds like a needed vacation coming up
Anyone who lives a lie every day of his life will, sooner or later, become depressed.
I agree!
Who cares what his problem is. I am worried about our depression, not his. If he is depressed he should take a bottle of Xanax, wash it down with a bottle of bourbon, and snort a big fat line of cocaine. Then we will all feel better in the morning.
Darn it, beat me to it.
Does this save us a place on Attack Watch?
IMO, there isn’t enough Prozac to fix his problems; what do ya think? Is there a psychiatrist on FR to comment?
‘does add another layer of context to the debate about what it means to be the first black President and the expectations that title carries.’
I guess this means that the mean white Americans are causing the 1/2 black Zero to become depressed?
Is his depression racist, then? Should it be reported to Attack Watch?

One has to assume that Hussein is setting himself up for a declaration of mental incompetency if anyone ever gets around to putting him on trial for anything.
I find him very depressing as does the economy.
We don’t need a President who has mental problems and his depression is just part of the problem.
I don’t know about obama, but the rest of the country sure is.
He doesn’t suffer from depression himself, but he is a carrier.
Missy took away his french fries.
Many of us are as dumb as a box of rocks.
