Thanks!
You evidently haven’t read Perry’s book, or you haven’t articulated why you don’t believe it to reflect his principles.
Hes got to present a coherent reform plan without scaring the Seniors.
I agree.
That is my worst fear. There is a lot of PerryMania going on, and I don’t quite understand what it is that is causing it. He is not a savior, he is not particularly Conservative, and at least from what I saw in the debates he is a bit amatuerish in his retorts and the things he “stands for” were pretty much lifted from the campaign stump speeches of Paul, Bachmann and Romney.
At time when we need and deserve a lot better, looks like we are gonna get just good enough. Too bad for us all. I’d pick him over Obama any day, hoping that the party and Congress will keep him on a righteous path for at least 4 years. But I don’t see what all the deep admiration for him is. He stepped into a very fragmented race as the frontrunner because of Conservative distrust of Romney - but that is not a reason to vote for him!
So I am really confused. I want to win, I want to beat Obama, but the field is weak. Terribly weak. There is a lot of time to fine tune the message when the Primaries end, of course.
Just wanted to say that it’s refreshing to read an opinion based on analysis rather than on feelings. I too have reservations about Romney but would definitely support Romney if he picks Rubio. Romney/RUBIO would finally something that might really be FAIR & BALANCED.
Okay young man, you call it. This ancient old boy has been around and seen a few pols. This perry kid is a fraud. Wake up! Get squared away on this phony! I’m guessing you are about 45-50 right? Do your home work!! Do not be fooled no matter how young you are! Harry T. and Ike knew the score. To bad we do not have any pols like them now...all we have is illegal/muslims lovers like riccardo.
If we end up with Romney or Perry as nominees, things will have to get worse, apparently, before they get better and they will get better, one way or the other, by divine Will.
Electing Romney or Perry is hardly different than electing Obama again...just hardly - that isn't enough difference to amount to anything of real value.
I vote with real values, not with pride. Pride is the root of all sin and the number one sin. Romney or Perry have no real values and supporting someone like them is nothing to be proud of anyhow.
Support life (Romney and Perry sell out life to the highest bidder), support liberty (Romney and Perry are more than willing to sell out liberty to the highest bidder), support the pursuit of happiness (Romney and Perry do not believe in liberty they believe in totalitarian states to control people's lives as they have/had practiced in their own states).
The spamming of threads, the cussing and shorthand cussing or eponyms and downright meanness has certainly increased on FR.
I don’t expect “ Any Republican is a good Republican. “ But I do wish they would save the vitriol for the Dems and our Nation’s enemies.
Have you done your homework? Read either one of Perry’s books?
If only the New Dealers had been kind enough to allow workers to make their own choice about whether to participate. As we know from experience, individuals would have done better on their own. Indeed, many private pension plans return 8 percent per year, compared to Social Securitys paltry 2 percent or less. Also, before the government padlocked the door in 1983, municipal governments were allowed to opt out of the system. Fittingly, three Texas countiesGalveston, Matagorda, and Brazoriadid so. In 1981, Galveston county employees, for example, voted 78 percent to 22 percent to leave Social Security for a private option. Employees in those private plans, having exercised their liberty at Washingtons sufferance, are reaping the benefits.
Perry, Rick (2010-11-15). Fed Up!: Our Fight to Save America from Washington (pp. 60-62). Little, Brown and Company. Kindle PC Edition.
Before I write anything, I’d like to say that Social Security ought to be reformed and soon. Demographics are against us and it will ran out of money within at least my lifetime.
Having said that, I would like to caution against over-exagerrating the returns of Texas counties that opted out of SS in the 80’s.
Herman Cain said that government retirees in Galveston, Texas, make “at least 50 percent more than they would ever get out of Social Security” because the county opted out of Social Security.
But that’s only for initial benefits, and those retirees do not get annual cost-of-living adjustments like SS has done every year ( but has stopped doing recently ).
Also, not all retirees get such a high initial benefit. Rick Gornto, president of First Financial Benefits Inc., which runs the plan for Galveston County said in a telephone interview with FactCheck.org that Galveston workers making $50,000 and up probably do get at least 50 percent higher initial benefits than they would under Social Security. If you are low-income [$25,000 a year or less], it’s probably about 20 percent higher than Social Security, on average (still better of course ).
Whatever the level of initial benefits, the Galveston plan’s retirement benefits are not indexed for inflation. So Galveston County retirees see the buying power of their monthly checks reduced over the years, while Social Security benefits are subject to an annual cost of living adjustment. Although the Social Security COLA was zero for 2010 and 2011, that followed four yearly increases of 4.1 percent, 3.3 percent, 2.3 percent and 5.8 percent. Since 1984 the average yearly COLA increase for Social Security has been just under 2.9 percent, even averaging in the last two years of no increase.
Just keep that in mind.
Perry only has one principle, that is, “who made the highest offer”, he has demonstrated that over and over and over.
Don’t bother.... Some people are simply immune to reason.
I suspected you hadn’t read his book.
That’s okay, I’ve already reported you to attackwatch. I upload a batch database every morning for every conservative in the U.S.
Saves time.
Never take the word of a career politician, some people claim they lie unless the correct amount of money is in the brief case. I have found that to be true about 80% of the time.
Never take the word of a career politician.
There’s also the benefit that the retirees actually own the funds, that the funds actually exist, and that their heirs inherit the money.
I know, I don’t know why I bother
