The state prosecuted her at their cost and she was found not guilty.
Why should she be responsible for the search?
I think she did it but my opinion doesn’t matter.
She was found guilty of lying to law enforcement.
I believe that she lied to the authorities and in so doing caused them to spend a small fortune searching for her daughter, who was not missing, but dead.
I think I read something said that the jury thought she had something to do with this but the state did not charge her with the lesser included offense that they felt she was gu8ilty of, that is why she was not guilty of what she was charged with.
It wasn’t much of a search. The body was in the most obvious place in the closest woods to the Anthony house just down the block and the body was only 20 feet from the road.
Seems to me Caylee should have been found the first morning somebody started looking for her.
I figure a search like that might cost, about $50.00 - $200.00 bucks. $300.00 bucks total if you brought a dog.
I am speechless that it took more than a day to find the body. I guess me and my dog shoulda went down there as soon as Caylee was reported missing?
The reason she should be responsible for the search is because of the testimony in court.
In court, the defense was that the little girl drowned in the swimming pool, and in some panic of events, the grandpa disposed of the body. Since her defense in court was that the little girl had drowned, and grandpa got rid of the body, clearly a search was not called for. Police resources were wasted on a fruitless search, and she knew it, regardless of whether the state was able to prove their case in court.
That’s why she should be responsible.
I agree. Not guilty, no cost to the accused for the “investigation”. Otherwise it would open the door abuse of the system, using the criminal justice system to inflict economic harm on individuals by investigating and or prosecuting marginal cases.
She shouldn’t have to pay a dime for this. Sorry if I am in the minority, but it seems clear as the driven snow that this would be a slippery slope if the state or county or city were allowed to bill for investigations that they lost or couldn’t prosecute for whatever reason.
She was aquitted of murder, but she was not found not guilty on all of the charges filed against her. She was convicted of this crime - providing false information to police. Her false information lead to police following false leads - she is responsible and found guilty in a court of law of this crime. Paying for these costs is part of the sentence of her conviction.
She is responsible for the costs of the search because the whole cornerstone of her defense was that the little girl was never missing. She drowned and then her mother dumped her body. Then Anthony lied to the police and allowed them to spend six months looking for a little girl who wasn’t lost.
It’s typical to charge someone who fakes an abduction for at least some of the costs of the searches. This is par for the course and not pay back for the verdict.
