We’re talking apples and oranges here.
She was found not guilty of the murder charges.
She was found guilty of lying to law enforcement.
She is NOT being given a bill for the cost of the criminal trial.
She is being given a bill for amounts spent by law enforcement searching for the little girl, before this trial ever began.
Remember that the defense testimony was that the little girl drowned in the swimming pool, and in some panic, the grandpa disposed of the body. This was their sworn legal testimony. Since their sworn legal testimony is that the little girl drowned and was never kidnapped, and never a missing person, that is why she is getting this fine.
This fine is not trying to recover the costs of the trial. It is to recover the costs incurred because she sent police on a fruitless search for a little girl who was not kidnapped.
Granted we all think the chick did it but i don’t like the precedent this sets and it should be challenged. Lets say you are found innocent of killing someone by a jury but perhaps was a bit less forthcoming on the advice of a lawyer regarding certain details, causing the police to search a little harder for evidence that in the end didn’t stack up. The judge is saying that the state can recoup the costs of attempting to prosecute you, despite the fact you were found innocent.
Doesn’t fly with me!
Yep. Twelve idiots who did NOT follow the instructions, never asked to look at any evidence and left their notebooks behind. They talked amongst themselves BEFORE deliberating as evidenced by the alternate who blabbed on TV. Travesty of justice. Oh, and Cindy lied. What else is new?
People who didn’t follow this case really have no clue what they are yammerin’ about.
OK, but if Casey has to pay back the $98,000.00 for the 4 misdemeanor charges she was guilty of, then does that mean that we have to pay her back for the 2 serious charges that she was NOt Guilty of?
This could end up costing us tax payers a lot of money if we have to reimburse Jose Baez.
