I think the Aswan dam is causing many more problems than it has solved. The Nile is badly silted. The regular floods kept down the instance of snail parasite-born illness, and the dam has stopped the regular infusion of rich mud which has kept down agricultural output. The lake behind the dam is silting up. Not to mention, evaporation was orders of magnitude greater than anticipated. Getting rid of the dam might be a good thing.
