NEW YORK (AP) -- Republicans have scored an upset victory in a House race that became a referendum on President Barack Obama's economic policies.
Retired media executive and political novice Bob Turner defeated Democratic state Assemblyman David Weprin in a special election Tuesday to succeed Rep. Anthony Weiner, a seven-term Democrat who resigned in June after a sexting scandal.

oh, I AM celebrating big time !!! That’s the district where my sainted grandmother lived when I was a young child. We may not see him retain the seat, it may be redistricted, but the really big thing is: some of these folks have never in their lives, EVER, pulled a R lever, or even thought of pulling an R lever. They may find it’s not so bad after all.
“That is a big deal and needs to be celebrated. “
Agreed, and I will pop open a new beer in true celebration!
I was very nervous about this, but it is a nice poke in the eye to Obama and Co.
If he wasn’t a stinking commie, and if he hadn’t sat in that anti-white church for decades, and if he wasn’t a complete ego-maniac, I could almost feel sorry for the man. Nobody likes you now Barack, the left probably hates you more than the right. And that’s NOT fair, because you’ve done as much for them as you possibly could.
But because of the commie thing and all I can only say HA HA! DESERVED IT!
“Erections have consequences.”
CLASSIC!
Who do we thank? Congrats! They and the voters did this country proud.
Save a screen cap of the original. I’m sure AP will delete the part of the headline that reads “seen as Obama rebuke” after a call from the White House and/or a few of the boys at SEIU.
ROTFL!
“After 90 years that district elected a Republican, so its obvious how well entrenched the Dem machine is there, and in this case, to no avail. Mazel tov!”
Hikind is part of that machine. So when he endorses Turner, it’s gonna happen in Brooklyn.
Add me to the list of nay sayers who were absolutely wrong!
Great job Bob, I’m very glad to be wrong on this one.
ATLANTA (AP) - Former President Jimmy Carter says he supports the Palestinians' effort to gain international recognition of their independence at the United Nations this month.
If the second worst president can back the Palestinians there's no reason the absolute worst can't. Bring on the Greyhound.
Its a bit clearer why Obie wanted the jobs bill passed “today”. Starting tomorrow, you’re a lame friggin’ duck !
I guess you have to find the New York board although most of them seem to have gone to bed, lol! One of the groups being thanked is the Brooklyn Young Republicans.
WOOOOHOOOOO! GRRRRRREAT news AND a GRRRRRREAT thread!
Thanks to everyone that voted and worked hard for Bob Turner.
Congratulations! Hats off to all those who worked hard to make this happen. Thank you.
This is beginning to remind me of the end of the Dinkins administration. I was convinced that New Yorkers would reelect that dolt. But I was WRONG!
“Is this truly the end of Weiner jokes?”
I hope not.
Awesome!
There are definitely some looney toon type folk here, but nothing like your average democrat party gathering... ;)
How can any red-blooded American say that Wayne is anything but a great American is beyond me. And, I love his acting!!! Obviously, so do millions and millions of others!!!
