When Rick Perry announced he was running for president the very same day Michele Bachmann won the Ames straw poll in Iowa -- and then proceeded to chat up Republicans in her hometown of Waterloo -- some saw it as a genius move. Others saw it as a dick move. But it looks like Perry has a record of stomping all over everyone else's dress on her big day. In 2008, the Texan literally grabbed Sarah Palin by the arm and yanked her out of the spotlight.
The Daily Beast's Andrew Sullivan highlights this video from a Republican Governors Association press conference just after the 2008 election. At the time, as John Scotus explains, the event would have offered Palin "first chance to defend herself" apart from the McCain campaign. But the other governors -- seven in attendence are or were at one time 2012 presidential candidates -- didn't want to let Palin soak up all the press.
At the time, Human Events' Jack Thompson explained that though the conference had been billed as Palin-centric, with 20 minutes of questioning for the Alaskan, just two hours before the event began, it was changed to allow just 5 minutes of Palin time....

no but michele will be history. .... ari-freedom
Palin and Bachmann are both history. Both are tied for dead last in Favorability ratings among Republicans and both are still heading South.
They only thing they have accomplished is to help Romney.
Anyone who has watched the video - as I have several times - knows that is a big LIE!
She answered each question and would step back each time after she replied. Rick Perry stepped forward to point to another person with a question and took Sarah's arm to urge her forward to the podium to reply!!
After that, he stepped forward to talk and Sarah was smiling and talking to someone to her right. There was no “grabbing”, no rudeness and Sarah did not look unhappy as some have said. Watch the video everyone!!
Fond of polls, are ya?
*****************************
Um, I dont think these polls really prove anything other than what is common sense to anyone with a clue. Its true of EVERY candidate that the more people get to know of them, the more negative impressions people develop.
Since every candidate has flaws and the media will be more than happy to highlight them, higher negatives are inevitable as the campaign progresses-and this goes double for whoever is perceived to be the frontrunner, since we all know that the MSM will do everything they can to protect their precious One.

That's what passes in The Atlantic these days ?
Once Sarah announces her endorsement of Rick Perry, some heads might explode. I just hope the the GOP won't be too fractured to unite against the real enemy next November.
In all fairness, you are right about this video. I think it was the reporters themselves who were upset...and that shows as well.
>> “Is that the same Jack Thompson that Jim banned from Freeperville because he was a nutcase ?” <<
.
I think you’re talking about “Jack Peace.”
He’s not from florida, he’s from Memphis.
He is a bit wierd, and extremely self-important, but he has a powerful memory, and for what its worth, his heart is really in the right place.
I don’t have a clue as to what you’re talking about so you’ll need to explain yourself. How exactly did Perry stab Palin in the back?
>> “Well, judging by Palin’s comments on Greta last night, she’s accepted the job.” <<
.
Palin has accepted the job of getting this country out of the mess the elitists have us in.
That job definitely includes exposing Perry for the jerk he is.
quote “They only thing they have accomplished is to help Romney”
THANK YOU!
finally someone gets it! the only one that is benefiting from all these attacks in Romney.
What I saw in that video was a total obliteration of the lies and blackguarding that some of the Perrywinkles and others have been posting on FR; that Sarah Palin can’t string two cogent sentences together.
What I saw and heard was a dignified lady giving succinct, informative, sensible answers to audience questions without ONE incident of hemming or hawing around, or frantically groping for a thought with which to spin something resembling an answer!
For MY money, not only is Sarah the smartest and most experienced IN THE AREAS THAT MATTER....SUCH AS ENERGY......but she has the stoutest, most unbending titanium backbone, and by some miracle of nature, she operates and stands her ground as if she also has a giant set of stainless steel cohones!
In MY book, anyone else we’ve seen so far is merely low grade second-best.
No, I’m talking Jack Thompson from Florida.
There won’t be any endorsements of Rick-the-dick Perry.
His day came and went this week.
The exposure of his Gardasil Gambit has him falling like a chunk of Kryptonite.
>> “is anyone else getting as tired as I am of these constant nonsensical attacks on our candidates?” <<
.
Perry is not one of “our” candidates.
Wait until his embrace of President Fox’s vision for open borders gets wide play.
good freaking grief.
I can’t wait until the primary is over, comments like “Perry is not one of our candidates.” are driving me freaking insane!
Nah, more like highly paid professional Monday morning quarterback. It sure beats debating.
