We actually had a memorial yesterday. We read in the bible:
Remember what Amalek did to you on the way as you came out of Egypt, how he attacked you on the way when you were faint and weary, and cut off your back, those who were lagging behind you, and they did not fear G-d. Therefore when the Lord your G-d has given you rest from all your enemies around you, in the land that the Lord your G-d is giving you for an inheritance to possess, you shall blot out the memory of Amalek from under heaven; you shall not forget.”
“But those that seek my soul, to destroy it, shall go into the lower parts of the earth. They shall fall by the sword: they shall be a portion for foxes. But the king shall rejoice in G-d; every one that sweareth by him shall glory; but the mouth of them that speak lies shall be stopped.”
It was my bar mitzva sedra. I read that maftir a long time ago.
Actually, the entire parsha (portion) last week was about rooting out evil.

” you shall blot out the memory of Amalek from under heaven; you shall not forget.
I have been saying this from Day One. And I can’t say more because the anger is still fresh, still raw, and amalek is bolder now...much bolder with the help of the world it seeks to destroy.
