I fear that Fontova is taking Beckel too seriously.

Beckel's "Che" remark was probably what he thought was a cheap throw-away line intended to antagonize the person he was "debating."

Beckel has reduced himself to the role of Liberal Clown, making the most outrageous and unsubstantiatied defenses of anything liberal, more as a parody than to be serious.

Watching Beckel these days is like watching Requiem for a Liberal. Maybe Beckel will even come on one night wearing a Che tee-shirt, just like when Anthony Quinn wore an indian chief costume in the final scene.

My take on Beckel is the same as yours.

He's like a cautionary tale about becoming a liberal; and I think that's precisely why he was chosen to be on the panel.
