Agreed, the folks above the first impact are the ones who I can't get out of my head (whether they were forced to jump or not). One minute they were at work or in eating or whatever, likely thinking about the mundane things we all think about - then they are rocked by the huge explosion.
Then they realize they are OK and have survived the impact - only to see hope drip away a drop at a time while the heat and flames slowly overtook them.
I remember one of the documentaries saying that there were like 4 calls from one of the victims, the first concerned but hopeful, the second agitated that they couldn't get an answer about a rescue plan, the third very frightened, and the fourth basically a fairwell.
