The clock is ticking for Sarah Palin, and her time is almost up.
With Mitt Romney and Rick Perry taking control of a quickly shifting Republican presidential campaign, Palin may have already missed her best chance for a late entry in the race.
"I think the window for Palin is closed, and every second that ticks off the clock things get more and more difficult for her," said Craig Robinson, a former state party political director who runs the Iowa Republican website.
"People are really ready to say this is our field of candidates, these are the people we have to choose from," he said. "They are growing frustrated with Sarah Palin's game of peekaboo."
On another visit to Iowa last weekend, she told reporters she was happy with the field of Republican candidates and quickly added: "I always think there is room for more."
But with the first nominating contest in Iowa less than five months away, little time is left to organize a national campaign, hire a staff and raise the money to compete.
The once unsettled battle for the Republican nomination to challenge President Barack Obama in 2012 has taken shape with last month's entry of Perry, the Texas governor who has roared to the top of the polls with strong conservative support.
Perry zoomed past Romney, the former governor of Massachusetts, by appealing to the same coalition of social, religious and Tea Party fiscal conservatives that Palin would target if she gets in the race.
"Now that Perry and Romney have begun to draw the battle lines between them, I don't think there is any room for Palin in the campaign," said Republican strategist Rich Galen. "She's still a big personality, but she's not a potential candidate."

Well earned, newbie?
As the VP choice you assume she was in the left seat of the RINO triplane.
Juan Crashland McLame and the RINO inside the beltway country club scum were calling the shots, and using Sarah for donations and attention while freely backstabbing her.
Yeah she learned, sadly for you, it was NOT her drumming, it was RINO McCain's.
Oh, that is so cute, I just want to cry.
With all due respect, what a recommendation. She is a master strategist, while all of us morons down here in dogpatch wonder what the hell we’re goin’ do from month to month. For me, you can keep your strategist and shove it. I want a man with balls to take on the muslim in the WH.
I would agree, and Eisenhower was a giant among men, with humility as well. It is interesting how great individuals are mentioned on Sarah Palin threads.
The window starts closing when filing deadlines start to pass and delegates thus become unavailable. That doesn’t begin to happen for more than a month.
Until then, this wind about “closing doors” is just so much hot air.
Oh, lighten up. LOL!
I say well-earned because she was highly ill-prepared for the national scene.
Katie Couric threw her a relatively soft-ball question, “So which magazines do you read?”
Sarah Palin: “All of them.”
I’m not saying that she’s not a good politician or that she couldn’t have done a good job.
She just wasn’t ready in 2008. And I know she is much better prepared now as opposed to back then.
>> “ and the big donors are coming on board now” <<
.
No, we won’t see them until around February or March, when they will know that they are effecting real candidates. The big action right now isn’t in-the-open donors, its the media and their heavy push-polling, in an attempt to sway the voters psychologically.
And why is it sadly for me?
I’m not anti-Palin. Never have been.
Just wondering, is there an official FEC deadline for filing for 2012 elections? If so, wouldn’t that be her drop-dead announcement date?
Perry is 100% a media candidate. that’s what the rave reviews are all about, getting their election fixing man in front in the right places.
Cain, Palin, and Bachmann are the people supported candidates, and Perry, Huntsman and Romney are the mediots toys.
I’m just curious to know if there is a Sarah Palin supporter out there who will acknowledge that she Told Sean Hannity on National Television on 7/13/11 that she would announce her intentions in late August or early September?
Is there anybody out there?
Is he available?
I have a sister.
Rush was strongly defending today the fact that social security is a ponzi scheme. (which it is)
In other words, he was strongly defending Rick Perry and strongly disagreeing with Mitt Romney.
Keep on repeating that to yourself as often as necessary. Then, when you come back down to the real world, and you See Perry as the nominee. You can remain in denial even then.
I know. I feel the same. No offense taken :)
>> “Palin’s political learning curve is astronomically fast, she’s light years ahead of Roooters et all.” <<
.
Palin’s learning was done the right way, in local politics when she was young; now she is applying the PhD from Hard Knocks University to our advantage.
The insiders, Romney, Perry, and Huntsman, have to be smashed.
I still hope Palin will be able to pick Cain as her VP; he knows nothing of government or foreign affairs, but his business knowledge will be key in putting the country back together.
I think I found answer to my question...it is Oct. 31 as Nov. 1, seems to be the deadline in NC, so that would seem to be her window...
