Five of the nine victims in the Carson City IHOP shooting were National Guard members
1:20 p.m.: Five of the nine people shot at the Carson City IHOP this morning were Nevada National Guard members, spokeswoman April Conway said.
Two of the three people who died were guard members, Conway said. She would not speculate on a motive by the shooter.
“All of our bases in Northern Nevada have stepped up their security,” Conway said. “We had planned to do this any way in light of the impending 9/11 (anniversary). This is just one more thing we’re going to implement to keep our members safe.”

12:10 p.m. update: The Associated Press is reporting that the Carson City Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that the shooter in the Carson City IHOP incident has died of his self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Were not releasing any details on the shooter, Furlong said, and noted that the suspect was only believed to be the shooter, not confirmed as such.
He said it was too early to tell if the shooter knew anyone at IHOP.
