I’m putting in an order for a T-Rex, Dimetradon, Stegasaurus, and a couple of Velociraptors.

(In Memphis on January 20, 2009, pump price were $1.49. We all know what happened after that.)

Of the animals listed the only one I could see thriving as a population would be the Irish Elk and then it probably wouldn’t thrive in modern Ireland.

As long as my tax dollars aren’t paying for it, go right ahead. This, by the way, is going to be my answer to a LOT of things for quite some time.

Scientists, having solved all the other ills facing humanity, may be on the verge of making Steven Spielbergs vision come true, according to CBS news. Sorry, it was Michael Crichton's vision. Spielberg just made the movie. And as always, the book is a lot better!

Agreed.
Although, if Mastodon barbeque takes off... I want stock options.

“Ive heard a few folks making more philosophical arguments against it, along the lines of saying that it was intended for these animals to go extinct, but that seems rather fatalistic to me.”
Intended for them to go extinct? WTF. We drove them into extinction.

A full sequence of undamaged and viable DNA would be needed. Do the scientists have that? And would they produce another Dolly?
It might be an interesting experiment but unlikely to be successful.

To be honest, I think bringing back these animals would be cool.

Seems that the down side of this was covered in just one line in the movie 'Jurassic Park':"Yeah, but when the Pirates of the Caribbean breaks down, the pirates don't eat the tourists."

WE drove them into extinction? I’m going to assume you meant the Ice Age animals and not Dinosaurs, but do you think the giant asteroid that hit N. America or Global Climate Change (Yes the Earth warmed up, without one coal plant or SUV on the planet!) might have had SOMETHING to do with it? Or did a few thousand humans with spears wipe out several species of mega-fauna all by themselves?

If this world is ever destroyed by man, it won’t be by someone wearing a uniform or a three-piece suit.....it will be some jackass in a white lab coat saying, “Yeah, I know it’s dangerous, but wouldn’t it be cool to see it!”
