"Doesn't appear" Palin will run: DeMint
CBS News ^ | September 5, 2011

(CBS News)

The Labor Day weekend marks the unofficial start of the presidential campaign season, and many of the leading candidates for the Republican nomination have started to take shots at each other, not just at President Obama, reports CBS News political correspondent Jan Crawford.

Several jabbed at Texas Gov. Rick Perry, perceived by many pundits as the latest frontrunner.

That list included Sarah Palin - who's managing to keep speculation alive about whether she's going to toss her hat into the GOP ring.

At a Tea Party rally in Indianola, Iowa, the former Alaska governor and Republican vice presidential nominee took what Crawford says appeared to be a swipe at Perry, after reports suggesting he was cozy with big donors.

"Some GOP candidates," Palin said, "they also raise mammoth amounts of cash and we need to ask them, too: What, if anything, do their donors expect in return from their investments?"

Most of the leading Republican contenders will be in South Carolina today at a political forum hosted by powerful, arch-conservative Sen. Jim DeMint.

And DeMint told "Early Show" co-anchor Jeff Glor he doesn't think a Palin run is in the cards this time around.

"It doesn't appear that she is," going to get into the fray, DemInt said. "She's done a lot, I think, to engage the American people and stir things up, which we really needed to do, to get American citizens more involved in the process. It made a big difference in the last election. My hope is it'll make an even bigger difference in the next election, as people take back their government."

He obviously did not hear her Iowa speech!

“Yet with repeated references to “my plan” in her recent speech, I believe only she’s in...”

Those statement made me a believer, too. I breathed a sigh of relief. I think that, not only is she on her own timetable, she’s on God’s, too. (But that’s just me; I could be wrong.)

Anyone to the right of Mao would be an “arch-conservative” to SeeBS.

Which explains this, since DeMint is a Romneyite.

I have been saying the same thing. Why should she run now? She is a major force that will get stronger in coming years. She is young and can afford to wait. Get more clout via SarahPAC, collect some chits, and cash them in down the road.

The country is out of time. We'll see if she agrees.

If you're looking for a person to save America, you have already lost the fight.

The President simply needs to be willing to follow the House in cutting spending and regulations. Sign a balanced budget amendment and return to the friendships we had with England, Australia, Israel ands Germany.

This isn't complicated. If you are looking for a Dictator who pushes all her or his own ideas down the throats of Congress we have that guy already.

If her timetable puts her announcement on Thanksgiving she will see her numbers going straight up right through election. She has every reason to wait and no reason to announce early.

A few observations....

I'm looking forward to DeMint's candidates forum today...it's a great idea..give them time to answer question..not 30 seconds...so possibly his comment is a gentle chiding of Sarah that she's not gonna be there...

Everytime Rudy's included in a GOP poll, he comes in at about 10%..which I don't get..he's done NOTHING....

I found her reaction interesting (to say the least) when the 2000 people started chanting “run, Sarah, run”. I’d like to hear how that woman who O’Reilly oft has on interprets Palin’s expression at that time. It wasn’t one of acceptance...

She was smiling and waving the moment she walked onstage. She even gave the thumbs up to someone. I'm not sure how you arrived at this interpretation.

Ive only watched the first ten or fifteen minutes of the speech, but from what I've seen, it looks like she's going to run. Actually, she already is rumning, she just hasn't made it offial yet.

That speech, is a campaign speech.

At this point, there is no worldly reason for Sarah Palin to jump into the Presidential race. Michele Bachmann and Rick Perry are covering that part of the spectrum nicely, and Sarah’s presence would only dilute that concentration of conservative energy. Even Herman Cain, though his support is only tepid at this point, has an outside chance of still turning this race around, and moving up in the pack to where he, too, could be a contender.

Romney, and to a lesser extent, Jon Huntsman, represent the “accommodationist” wing of the Republicans, perhaps wrongly believing that a compromise may be worked out with the more doctrinaire liberals. But the agenda the liberals support is evil, and compromise with evil is still evil.

It doesn't appear to anyone that she is going to run if everyone is following the current “conventional wisdom” the MSM has contrived.
Even good conservatives like Jim are safe to express opinions according to the Leftist media paradigms.
Still,as much as RINOs and Leftists fear and loath Mrs Palin they cannot read HER mind anymore than good conservatives like DeMint and me.
I can't speak for Jim but as for me,I take with a ton of salt anything the MSM manufactures.
And if they say she ain't and make sure to publish stories of others who say she either ain't or that it “appears” that she ain't, I'm at least thinking she might and in my patriot moods where I fear for the survival of our country at the hands of evil Marxists led by Obama and she is, IN FACT, our best hope to stop them I say she has to.

But if she doesn't there are two other REAL conservatives in Bachman and Cain.

Yet with repeated references to “my plan” in her recent speech, I believe only she’s in...

The reference to "not needing a title" in her speech tells me she's out.

I don't believe Palin is going to run. I believe that her internal polling has told her what everyone outside of Free Republic already knows: Like Hillary Clinton before her, Sarah Palin has a sizable following of dedicated supporters that is, unfortunately, outnumbered by an even larger group of people who loath her. She can't win and she knows it.

I believe Palin is going to use her celebrity and influence to affect change from outside the beltway by holding elected officials' feet to the fire on issues important to TEA Party conservatives. She has a plan and she's going to use her power to sell this plan to those who run and get elected to office.

To be fair to her supporters and her party, Palin needs to soon give a definitive yes or no answer. Other candidates are getting their campaign machines well-oiled, raising money and picking up important endorsements. Working towards Obama's electoral defeat won't be easy (despite what many here think) and it begins now, not later.
