The Democratic candidate running in the special election to replace former Representative Anthony D. Weiner has raised more than twice as much as his Republican opponent, according to campaign finance filings made public on Thursday.
The Democrat, David I. Weprin, a state assemblyman, reported raising $451,000 through Aug. 24. That was more than double the $204,000 raised by the Republican, Bob Turner, a retired cable television executive.
About a third of Mr. Turners total fund-raising $65,500 came from five personal loans he provided to his campaign. Only a sliver came from national party groups, which this year spent generously on a special election in western New York.
Running in a heavily Democratic district that includes portions of Brooklyn and Queens, Mr. Turner has gained unexpected traction in framing the race as a referendum on President Obama and his fiscal policies. A Siena College poll conducted last month found him trailing Mr. Weprin by only 6 percentage points, within the margin of sampling error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.
But the limited amount of money he has raised adds one more constraint to an already difficult final push before the special election, scheduled for Sept. 13. Not only will Mr. Turner have to overcome the left-leaning demographics of the Ninth Congressional District, but he will also have limited resources in counteracting the mobilizing might of local Democratic organizations and labor unions, which largely support Mr. Weprin.
Mr. Weprin has focused his campaigning on his commitment to protecting Medicare and Social Security, and he said in a statement on Thursday that his fund-raising results offered proof that his platform was clearly resonating with voters.
Im very grateful for this outpouring of financial support, which will help me bring this critical fight to Washington, Mr. Weprin said.

Yup, the Dimocrat is getting all kinds of Hollywood elitist money, union money, and MoveOn.org money no doubt, but last night on John Bachellor (sp?) he said that the Republican and Dimocrat were neck and neck in the polls. The Dim had outraised the Republican 4-1, something like that.
LOL. Poor New York Times. They hate the idea that a Republican may take Weiner’s seat and they know all the polls show the race close. So they comfort themselves and their head-in-the-sand Lib readers with the fact that the Dem is “way ahead” in fundraising. That way they can sleep at night and won’t wake up screaming at the thought of a Republican representing them.
Hey, Bob Turner -— just stand and deliver this philosophy from Paul Harvey: WHEN YOUR OUTGO EXCEEDS YOUR INCOME, YOUR UPKEEP WILL BE YOUR DOWNFALL.
Even Debtocrats have kitchen tables where they have to balance their own personal checkbooks by using the wisdom of Paul Harvey. They will know in their gut that you are right, and vote for you.
More money means more radio and TV ads, more junk mail, more robocalls, and more mudslinging. Is there any evidence that campaign overload actually changes anyone’s mind about a candidate?
In House Race, in New Yawk City, Democrat Is Far Ahead in Fund-Raising.
Duh.
Duh duh duh.
