Rick Perry is no libertarian
The Washington Post ^ | 08-30-11 | Dana Milbank

Posted on 08/30/2011 10:56:23 PM PDT by Lazlo in PA

A s my Post colleague Perry Bacon reported in detail this week, Rick Perry has jettisoned the “compassion” that sometimes leavened the conservatism of his predecessor in the Texas governor’s mansion.

If Perry’s style resembles anybody’s in George W. Bush’s White House, in fact, it is that of former vice president Dick Cheney, whose just-published memoir, “In My Time,” might as well have been titled “Right Every Time (Even Though I Was Surrounded by Idiots).” Think of Perry as Bush without the charm.

But in one area I quibble with Bacon’s shrewd analysis of Perry, whose victory in 2012, he writes, “would cement the Republican Party’s shift away from Bush’s approach to a more libertarian, anti-government GOP.”

My problem with Perry’s zeal is one of my problems with the Tea Party generally: Though it claims to be libertarian, it is remixing the religious right’s greatest hits.

Another mindless piece from a real piece. Dana Milbank has little understanding of the Right and the Tea Party. What a snarky little twit.(He is little, I met him once).

It is incredible just how lazy and ignorant the MSM often are. But then I remember some presstitute calling Hillsdale College ‘the nursery of Neo con thought’ back about 1990 .

Once again, another one of your confusing posts. Are you trying to say something here? I know you don't like Perry so this means something in that vein. Are you not a fan of Military Service? Is flying planes in the Air Force a sign of RINOism or full out Communism? I am confused.

Oh, here we go again. What’s this one supposed to mean? That both Bush and Perry served in the military? Since when is that a bad thing?

Like most leftists. And Milbank has disdain for the Christian, Rick Perry.

I'm not much of a George Bush fan, but with what Barack Obama has wrought on our country, 2000-2008 are 'the good old days' as far as most people are concerned.

I don't think Perry and Bush are really much more than cosmetically similar, but even that comparison is going to hurt less and less as 2011 rolls into 2012.

Except for the far far left*, that thinks that George W Bush is a raw, elemental symbol for all that is utterly wrong with America and that a willingness to vote for someone like W is basically an admission that you have a tail, horns, goatee, red skin and cloven hoofs. (His name is to be pronounced 'Booosh', preceeded by the words 'cowboy', 'terrorist' or both. Shaking your head and fists while speaking his name is not required among that group, but highly suggested.)

* And some people here.

“While the rest of the political world was reading Cheney’s attacks on Colin Powell, I read about Perry’s attacks on gay scoutmasters.”

At this point Colin Powell is a gay scoutmaster.

*Even though I intensely dislike D. Cheney and consider the Iraqi War to have been a great mistake, Powell sold it as much as anyone; how is it a “cheap shot” for Cheney to say so?

Rick Perry is like Dick Cheney? I never thought of him that way, but okay. I’m diggin’ it. Cheney is a strong man with strong opinions.

George W. Bush is not without his flaws, but there’s a lot of good stuff about him, too.

His unabashed love of his country and his military service are two of them.

Rick Perry, like W, loves and serves his country.

Thanks for pointing this out! Rick Perry is a good choice for President.

Tempest, I have a question for you. If George W. Bush was running against Barack Obama, and you HAD to vote for one of them... which one would it be?

Me? I'd vote for W in a heartbeat, with enthusiasm, warts and all.

“While the rest of the political world was reading Cheney’s attacks on Colin Powell, I read about Perry’s attacks on gay scoutmasters.”

Another reason to like Rick Perry. The Scouts clearly stand by Christian principles, and homosexuals clearly don’t live by those and have far higher rates of sexual molestation charges and sexual charges in general. They have no business being scoutmasters.

Dana Milbank further clearly has little understanding of Christianity, either. Christ a “good teacher” if all he said was false? Perry’s right; it’s all or nothing.

Perhaps Milbank feels a little guilty in just tossing the faith of his forefathers away in exchange for DC coctail chatter?

Governor Perry ought to make that a central piece of his campaign. Thanks Dana.

I recently got an email that has pictures of both Obama and Perry at age 22. The Perry pic showed him as a pilot.

I have no words to describe the Obama pic in constrast.
