Des Moines, Iowa (CNN) For the first time, Mitt Romney will headline a major national tea party rally.
On Labor Day the Republican presidential candidate will join the Tea Party Express Reclaiming America bus tour in Manchester, New Hampshire, organizers tell CNN.
The groups fifth national bus tour kicked off last week in California and will end in Tampa ahead of the CNN/Tea Party Express debate on September 12th. Thirty stops are on the bus tours schedule.
Romneys appearance at the event is significant: he has not headlined any events in the Tea Party Express previous four bus tours. Meanwhile, leaders of other tea party groups say they cannot recall any major tea party events that Romney has spoken to or attended since the movement began in 2009.

I supported Romney in 2008, I will vote for him if he receives the Republican nomination in 2012, but he will have to secure it without my help. Senator Dement asked those in S.Car. to wait until Labor Day to make a decision, I’m in Mississippi but I think I’ll wait at least until then. I voted for Bachmann in a straw poll, and at this time I’m leaning towards Perry. I really don’t want to denigrate someone I will end up having to support and vote for.
The difference is that the Right had no viable alternative to McCain whereas there are several now. It was obvious to many that McCain was going to be the nominee unless the Right unified around an alternative. It preferred to throw up people who could not win (Hunter, Huckabee, Thompsom).
No one is speaking of “complacency”, quite the opposite, supporting a conservative candidate with a chance and spreading their message will marginalize and eliminate Romney from contention. He has enough money to stay the course and will but will lose.
I agree.
Given Mormon dietary habits shouldn’t he say he’s with the Milk Party?
Who in their right mind invited (or approved) Slick Willard the future “god” of his own planet to a Tea Party Rally? Whoever it was should have their head examined... Romneycare and his ongoing support of it proves that he is NOT a conservative, neither does he represent or support the values and views of the Tea Party.
See if my thinking has slipped because I just turned 61. The Tea Party hates Obama because He passed Obamacare, has policies that have increased our nation’s debt, and does not follow the Constitution, right?
So instead we want a candidate whose claim to fame is the creator of Obamacare, who left his state with a 43% increase in debt, but is supported by the Tea Party because we don’t need Obama for 4 more years, instead we want Romney because he has an “R” after his name instead of a “D”
Where do I join such a clear-thinking organization?
All of the republican candidates have been invited to speak at tea parties.
The tour is ending in a republican presidential debate in Tampa on Sept 12th.
Makes sense to me.
He will probably be called on all of his liberal policies.
Then the TPX has undermined its entire raison d'etre if it has in fact invited Romney aboard.
Tea Party to Back Any GOP Nominee Including Romney [according to self-appointed tea party "leader"]
FLIP SLICK WILLARD RINO ROMNEY is almost hysterical in his daily rant against the commie in chief.
Too bad for poor WILLARD that he might as well be debating a mirror.
Opportunist phony coward degenerate sons of polygamist military service avoiding snake oil salesmen bitches from a family of phony coward degenerate sons of polygamist military service avoiding snake oil salesmen bitches like Romney need to be destroyed.
The GOP risks annihilation as long as he is in the mix.
This must be the last election cycle he is allowed to pollute.
Well your term “aboard” is quite ominous.
If you had been following along, you would know that this tour is all about a presenditial debate when it ends.
All republican candidates were invited to attend.
And may state their case at a rally.
You think Romeny can convince anyone that he is THE Tea Party Movement cadidate of choice?
Heck, probably not even you! Get some confidence fella!
I have no confidence in anything or anyone in politics right now except Sarah Palin. And isn't the TPX supposed to be about Conservatives and not necessarily Republicans, per se?
Agreed 100 percent. And will say again: Complacency where Romney is concerned is ill advised.

I'm going out of my way to try to help you understand what this tour is all about.
It ends with a REPUBLICAN debate in Tampa in conjunction with cnn and the TPX.
Therefor ALL that are invited to the debate are given the opportunity to state their case at one of the tea party rallies across the country.
Romney is one of the candidates that will be part of the debate.
This Tour ending in the debate does not reflect negatively on the TPX. I think it is an excellent idea that is going quite well.
