Texas Gov. Rick Perry, like most of the other the GOP presidential hopefuls, says his campaign is about undoing the decisions of President Obama. But Perry also presents a stark alternative to the last Republican to occupy the White House, his fellow Texan George W. Bush.
In his writings and speeches before he entered the race, Perry shared the view, widely held among conservatives, that Bushs government spending habits in office were a betrayal of the GOPs core fiscal principles. But Perry went further, dismissing compassionate conservatism, the central tenet of Bushs domestic policy, as just more overreach by the federal government.

I say he supported neither:
We are fed up with bailout after bailout and stimulus plan after stimulus plan, each one of which tosses principle out the window along with taxpayer money. We cant even keep up with all the spending, be it the $700 billion Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP), the auto industry bailout, the AIG bailout, or President Obamas failed $787 billion Recovery Act. The list goes on and on. Fed Up! page 5
Rick Perry supported TARP [Video]
Rick Perry Fervently Supported the TARP Bailouts in 2008
"After the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008, of which the Troubled Asset Relief Program(TARP) was a part of, failed to pass in the House in its first vote, Rick Perry teamed up with Joe Manchin, who was then the head of the Democratic Governors Assocation. Perry and Manchin wrote and sent a letter to Pelosi, Boehner, Reid, and McConnell on October 1st, 2008 urging them to come together and pass the $800 billion bailout, which ended up costing trillions.
The letter, which you can take a look at yourself (View PDF), stated,
'As leaders of our respective organizations, we dont always see eye to eye on policy, but we come together today with one clear purpose. We strongly urge Congress to leave partisanship at the door and pass an economic recovery package. We both believe that its time to stand together for our country.'"
Rick Perry, Nikki Haley push cut, cap and balance pledge
In case you don't know it, "cut, cap and balance" would have raised the debt ceiling by $2.4 TRILLION dollars.
So, it's your choice. You can believe his current campaign rhetoric, or you can believe the facts. But you can't honestly do both.
Rick Perry is a fraud.
None of the candidates, not even Palin, are advocating that. The problem is more complex than that.
Excellent article. Thank you
Which candidate is your political party pushing again? Do they have a snowball’s chance in Hades of winning?
“Their guy” is Huntsman.
Did you bother to read the article you just posted on cut/cap/trade from Politico?
lol!
Weak on illegals...NOT...
Perry stopped short of endorsing any particular approach to the U.S. financial meltdown and warned against any measures that would allow shady business practices to continue.
“We’re sick and tired of watching Washington bicker with each other while financial markets are roiled,” he said. “The other side of that is we’re certainly not interested in Washington bailing out a bunch of irresponsible mortgage brokers in an industry that has too often been run on greed.”

On September 1, 2008 Governor Perry co-wrote a letter to leaders of Congress urging them to act. The letter provided no specifics on the action to be taken. However, that TARP legislation had recently failed to pass Congress and was the only legislation being considered in Congress. The legislation that created the TARP program passed Congress on the day that the letter was written. A year later, Governor Perry stated that this letter was an attempt to spur action other than the TARP legislation.
When more bailouts were discussed after the TARP program, Governor Perry co-wrote another letter in opposition to all bailouts. He stated that the federal government was not only burying future generations under mountains of debt, but also taking our country in a very dangerous direction.

That darkness is again knocking me in the head!!!
The more I read about Perry the more I like him...
I don’t mind, I welcome people to look at my posting history.
No. I don’t care what Politico says.
But, I do know what CCB contained, a $2.4 TRILLION dollar increase in the debt ceiling, and that Rick Perry supported it.
The poster asked for information, and I gave it.
So, did YOU support TARP and raising the debt ceiling $2.4 TRILLION dollars, like Rick Perry?
Or, are you just willing to give him a pass on those things, just like you are on everything else?
He has ALL the right enemies.
Anyone who believes that nonsensical spin out of the Perry camp is dangerously naive.
