APNewsBreak: Perry bills feds for housing illegals

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Texas Gov. Rick Perry has asked the U.S. Department of Homeland Security for nearly $350 million to cover the costs incurred detaining illegal immigrants in state prisons and county jails. In a letter to Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, Perry criticized the federal government hasn't been doing enough to secure the border with Mexico, thereby allowing illegal immigrants to enter the U.S. and use taxpayer-funded resources, including prisons and jails. It's a claim the Republican governor has made many times before.

The letter was dated Aug. 10, three days before Perry formally announced he is running for president.

Perry is quickly becoming a cartoon character. This move was clownish.

I met Robinson and he's an honorable guy. Like everyone, including me, he isn't perfect and supports what he wants to. The immigration madness is on-going, and destructive, as our borders have become a national disaster and national security time bomb. I don't think JR is going there this time around, and like me, since its so distant on the horizon, and events are so fluid, will watch very carefully.

I personally will not vote for another candidate that has supported, aided and abetted, and gave legitimacy to organizations who support amnesty and illegal aliens.

This is a big issue for me and America which has been thrown down the stairs, ignored, bought off, and white washed by the best of the best.

Right on, ProCon. It’s really sad to come here and see all the vitriolic crap spewed on Perry and the other Republican candidates. What these purists need to realize is that any one of them will be a huge improvement over the Communist in Chief. Moreover, each of the Republican candidates deserves our admiration for subjecting themselves and their families to the $900 billion Dem smear machine. I have no problem with anyone pointing out policy differences or touting one fine Republican over another. However, when it gets down to thread hijacking and ad hominine attacks, they’re only feeding the Dem machine.

So now conservatives, who actually want a conservative candidate, not a partially conservative candidate are going to be called purists?

On FreeRepublic no less?

This is the same tactic employed by supporters of McCain, Rudy, Huckabee, Dole, and every other flawed GOP POTUS candidate.

An attempt to adjust the goal posts where the definition of conservative is concerned.

You are on the wrong web-site my friend.

In a letter to Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, Perry
criticized the federal government...Perry asserts the fed hasn't been doing
enough to secure the border with Mexico, thereby allowing illegal immigrants to enter the U.S. and use taxpayer-funded resources, including
prisons and jails.

Golly, I hope he doesn't have to give the blanket back (/snix).

Senor El Perrista receives a blanket from Mexican Gov Enrique Martinez
of Coahuila, as a token of appreciation for enacting the Texican Dream Act.

Yawn. You have a choice - Obama or a Republican. You want to get a PURE candidate, I get that. You have ONE issue that you believe surmounts all others. I get that. When you get into the voting booth next November, if the Choice is Perry or Obama or writing in a loon like Ron Paul, what will you do?

Sure the check is in the mail. This is just Rick trying to sound conservative, he knows this has been tried many times before, by others, it goes no where.

Well those were his words. Just sayin’

I read that thread where CW was attacked and the new rules laid out, so since this isn’t a SP thread then discuss the topic and stop acting like a junior high hall monitor.

We’re adults here, act like it please.

Would it be better to lose that growing demographic and lose every national election to 0bama type candidates or shouldn’t we as a party work on trying to grow the base? Purifying the party isn’t how you are going to win elections. Whoever thinks that strategy works is foolish.

“He isn’t a Tom Tancredo or Duncan Hunter on border issues, but he isn’t a Bush either.”

Bush won, Tancredo and Hunter lost.

Important to consider.

Let's see. Perry's been governor for ten years and he just now gets around to billing the feds over this issue?

Must be an election coming up.

What made me lose the keyboard was the topic of this thread. Someone get that man a Stetson. With a salt ring. And dust.

This is so good it’s like kettle corn at your favorite movie house.
