Approximately 65 million people are likely to be directly impacted by Hurricane Irene as the storm takes aim at the densely populated Eastern Seaboard. Evacuations are underway for high flood risk areas.
Mass transit cancellations, schedule changes and road/bridge closures are occurring throughout the storm warning areas. Please check with local news and Emergency Management Operations to determine the recommendations for your immediate area.

I have lots of big trees in the yard.
Think I will park across the street in an open field.
It will. Our renters left today. They said it was so beautiful that they hated to leave. They secured the place and said that rumor had it that all electricity would be shut off in the city. They did it to Wildwood. If she has any cars she has to get them to high ground because the salt water will do a number.(((((Hugs)))))
Sustained winds 30-50 hours for the better part of 24 hours can wear down a lot of construction. Watched a carport across the street bounce across a roof (punching holes along the way), take out the tower on a boat and then crash into another neighbor’s side door. Looked out another window and saw a boat in my side yard. Took me a moment to realize the boat was in my next door neighbor’s yard, and I didn’t have a 6ft privacy fence anymore.
You be careful tonight. Will be praying for all of you guys in harms way.
Thanks for the link !
I'll definitely look into availability of one of those.
Can't get it in time for the weekend's festivities, but it'd be handy next year when SHTF.
Thanks. I don’t live in hurricane country, but have many relatives and friends who do.....and I used to. So, I am always interested.
I may have to follow in NN’s footsteps and start some blizzard threads this winter. That’s our major concern around here.
Just thought I would report on what is going on in Wilmington NC.
We have had steady rain for most of the day.Not torrential rain, just steady. It gets heavier in the stronger gusts of wind we get.The wind has been gusty at times maybe 30-40 mph,but nothing that I would call strong sustained winds.
The wind has picked up more as the evening goes on, but we still have power and cable.Take care everyone in the storms path.
LJ is right, the bleach will react away within a few days. Don't need much, but you should do some for the same reason cities use sodium hypo-chlorate (bleach) for water treatment.
I have been wondering the same thing , but was afraid to ask . Not to be unkind , but she looks like the Joker , JMHO .
To receive USB the radio must be capable of SSB single sideband or CW code reception. Sometimes called BFO beat frequency oscillator must be on to understand sideband only signals. Onec this mode is enabled, you may have to retune the frequency to make the audio intelligible.
She has a rental there too.
“Not to be unkind , but she looks like the Joker , JMHO .”
LOL...I said the exact same thing to Mr. Pen last night when we saw her on the news!
If there is a convenient location to park the car between two buildings, that might be a good place. High ground and solid ground is important. No good if the car sinks in mud during an extended storm.
He should have used the word "allegedly" insteaad of apparently.
And before any Mets fans jump on me - I have always been a Mets fan.......but they are not doing well this year.....
I’m in Gravesend Brooklyn, near the shore. Should be interesting.
Good , now I don’t feel so unkind .
Be careful.
Thanks for the advice. Nix the field.
Gabs, he was a hoot, saying it with his best posh English accent.
