Approximately 65 million people are likely to be directly impacted by Hurricane Irene as the storm takes aim at the densely populated Eastern Seaboard. Evacuations are underway for high flood risk areas.
Mass transit cancellations, schedule changes and road/bridge closures are occurring throughout the storm warning areas. Please check with local news and Emergency Management Operations to determine the recommendations for your immediate area.

Hi all, it’s past me now. Not a direct hit but enough to get my attention.
DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOODY! Be safe my friend. They are saying by the time it gets chances are it will be downgraded to a tropical storm, I’m keeping my fingers crossed!
I may well have been. Check my profile - I have gotten into singing kinda big time. Got a website and a YouTube channel. My group is singing at the Bristol Rhythm and Roots Reunion in September.
Bristol - for those who do not know - is called the "Birthplace of Country Music."
Prayers for all the FReepers in the path, that they will evacuate when it seems appropriate, and there will be no deaths for anyone in this hurricane.
Glad you are in the clear. No matter the forecast track, it is stressful when a monster-sized storm is slowly grinding offshore past your location.
I and many others are not happy with Mayor Bloombergs many anti-freedom and pro-social debasement policies. But as an executive in a time of crisis he is at the rank of a Giuliani. Hes very good, energetic, mature, and on top of things.
The opposite of Obama, of Nagin, of Dinkins.
Good news. Some facebook friends in the path are posting that they have been to stores for supplies like flashlights and gas and these things are sold out.
Does anyone know what is happening at arlington national cemetary?
Is the honor guard still at the tomb of the unknown?
As soon as he evacuated the nursing home residents yesterday morning, I thought the same thing.
Gov. Christie seems to be handling the pre-storm preparation activities in NJ pretty well too.
Glad you are safe. Guess you did not lose power or you would not have been able to let us know. Hope others in Irene’s path are as lucky.
I’m in NJ and debating whether to take down just the dish part and leave the pole and mount. I have the much wider slimline 3 which has a bigger surface area for the high winds to hit.
I’ll check the hurricane track in the morning and see how much we might be hit here.
Then why are you here? Sheesh!

Now, you know, it was not Zero who wanted to leave early, and certainly not because he wanted to show any concern for the people who might endure the effects of the hurricane. Nor did he want to go back to DC to take assume any leadership responsibilities.
He was probably told (forced)to leave by the AF because they didn't want to risk flying AF One from the East Coast any later than tomorrow. I bet the concern was more for the plane and crew. Who the heck cares if Zero is stuck in the throws of Irene? Let him stay out on the golf course while the hurricane passes over his head!
I just wonder if Mooshelle, her daughters, her Mom, and her twenty some attendants will come back early. Or if she will even fly on the same plane as her husband. I doubt she will forego the expense of having her own special flight. After all, the queen likes to travel separately since the taxpayers are footing the bill.
It’s not that big now. CA has earthquakes, horrendous fires and is home of most of the commies, no thanks.
I heard on Fox that Michelle and the kids will return to DC tomorrow.
My granddaughter said they might go to an evacuation place to be safe. They have animals and are worried about them. Thanks again for posting how to get information.
That is too funny!
It’s weakening because dry air is entering the eye area. That spells death to most hurricanes.
