Approximately 65 million people are likely to be directly impacted by Hurricane Irene as the storm takes aim at the densely populated Eastern Seaboard. Evacuations are underway for high flood risk areas.
Mass transit cancellations, schedule changes and road/bridge closures are occurring throughout the storm warning areas. Please check with local news and Emergency Management Operations to determine the recommendations for your immediate area.

Night, stay safe.
Welcome. My husband turned in, but I can't sleep either. Our 15 year old has agreed not to sleep upstairs tonight, but I don't think he'll be sleeping much anywhere. We're in Montgomery County PA, north of Philadelphia. 11 hours of rain, worry about our towering trees and checking on our creek . . . it's wearying. No big wind here-yet. Still have power. If winds kick up that will likely change.
Thanks for the link, Lainie. Local Channel 7 here just covered the story about the dam. The situation there does not look good.
Good grief what is it about some people and this one upmanship???????? My hurricane was bigger than yours....ya sound like a bunch of little kids.
Hell if I know. The reporter on the beach had to leave because the water was coming up to the truck. The street look good.
what town in N. NJ are you in?
I’m in Allendale NJ in Bergen County—nothing flickering at 2 30 am
Oh no! And without a doubt, we paid for that idjit's public school education.
How would you handle the situation if a hurricane hit at Brownsville Texas and ran the coast to Biloxi? Maybe a bit further than this will go, but similar situation
When a 30 foot seawall is comin at ya...thats a Hurricane..I wud not close my shutters over Irene.
But I do have sympathy for those living up North....hope every one is safe up there.
If anyone needs..any information on Hurricanes please do not hesitate to ask. This includes dealing with insurance companies and such..

Yeah. Really stupid.
Here in Central New Jersey, It was still for a moment, but now it’s picked up. Just rain though. No wind at all. I think i may be able to go to sleep now.

There might not be a 30 ft seawall coming, but everything on the east coast got the dirty side of the storm, surge wise. Winds on land aren’t that high, but if you know anything you know that doesn’t mean much. There is going to be a lot of flooding
Your street?
Hope all is OK.
Doesn’t matter if it’s south or north, a hurricane, hours and hours of relentless rain and wind, pounding surf .. it’s an extremely unpredictable, stressful, anxious time. Doesn’t have to be a Cat 3 or 4.
Flooding waters/wind damage can be and in many cases, I’m sure, probably will be devastating, and cause much damage and loss. It hurts, and rebuilding and restoring are really stressful and especially tough in these hard economic times when so many millions are already struggling and suffering.
The one positive that may result is that folks are forced
to realize that events can occur that are totally out of our control and expectations, and how prudent and wise it is to try stock up and have some elementary preparations in storage on hand, as much as they can.
Who knows what’s coming next to surprise us, especially with the current political landscape and the vicious overlords and radicals in our midst?
Gonna try to turn in.
Prayers for God’s blessings of protection for all in harm’s way. May the morning bring some welcome relief and the strength to deal with the effects of this dark night of worry.
He was standing on our street 10 blocks down.Night
No disrespect...i bet you’re a great person but those of us who have lived through big storms....Camille in my case...thought this one was overblown to begin with
I also lived Andrew sorta...I was stranded overseas while my wife and kids ride it out off Old Cutler in South Miami....that was worse than being in Cammile’s eye...for me nerves wise
But I do hope you don’t suffer power and water issues that can be awful...hot like this
Are you in the path of the “Hurricane”?
Yeah flooding is not gud. I can remember my brother and I floating in a wash tub (after a Hurricane)..we were paddling with our hands...our mother was not pleased.
hehehe
Wow! Which hurricane and state did that happen?
