Very well said. Some folks just like to be naysayers without bothering to provide any real information or analysis to back it up.
UPDATE ON MY FRIEND WHO WENT TO NYC TODAY....
First, thanks to you all for your concerns re my friend who had planned a lovely 5 day trip to NYC with her 21 yr old daughter to see broadway shows, etc. and was determined to go, regardless of this hurricaine. I was sure she would not be going, with all the plane cancellations, etc.
Today I talked with her husband ( we are all in Jax, FL )who told me that my friend and her daughter HAD FLOWN UP THERE very early this morning.UNBELIEVABLE.
This woman has never been to NYC, they forgot their cell phones in the car, etc. If the broadway shows were cancelled she was “going to get some food and stay in the hotel (Manhatten) and walk around in raincoats”.
I am hoping they will be fine and the worst will be they are very bored.
Please say a little prayer for them.
Maybe its just me being over reacting and they will come back from their ‘adventure” telling me I am a chicken.
I'm no Bloomberg fan, but he's likely to come out of this as a hero/genius.
And constant 45 MPH winds aren’t much of a problem, it’s low and high gusts that do all of the damage.
They should be OK, but they basically wasted their money by going.

They can’t all be wrong. If you trust NOAA, I don’t know what else to say.
Well, the fact that they made it surprises me but this may be a hidden blessing. They will get a transit shut down and any cab they want. The show will go on. It might be quite a treat.
thanks....what I couldn’t understand is they had travel insurance, it would have paid out even before they left.
Love your optimism! ha.
Guess I am a chicken.ha.
Sometimes you can’t get that money back.
This beast really is like a hybrid between a n'oreaster and a hurricane, with bad traits from both. The huge fetch of a n'oreaster. With the rainfall of a hurricane. Size does matter in storms like these, which Ike demonstrated in 2008 (Ike was 'just' a category 2, not even a 'major' hurricane, but try explaining that to SE Texas).
Well...he is, after all, the "food stamp" president.
Those deaths were all caused bu people being outside messing around in bad weather. All preventable. If I went outside and bathed my on my veranda, during a bad thunderstorm and lightning struck me, who would be to blame? The bad storm or my stupidity? Tree limbs fall all of the time in the winter up north. They kill people sometimes, you just don’t hear about it because it’s not a big, bad scary storm with a real name.
I know you got scared in a hurricane that caused you to leave FL and I know some people just cannot handle them. Evacuation is an option that we always take advantage of. If they issue a mandatory evacuation, we leave. Sometimes we even leave when it’s not mandatory just because my wife hates to deal with the wind, noise, can’t let the dogs out to go to the bathroom, etc.
I rely on Norfolk/VA Beach (2+ hours) and Salisbury, MD (1hour) but both actually do include this location, Salisbury usually better than VABeach. Dealt with the same problem when I lived in Delaware. So I know exactly how you feel!
What, did she have her fat @$$ relocated, uh...upwards?
It didn’t look good last night, but landfall actually went west of Pamlico Snd, so this storm will struggle to keep strength.
Wow, I can’t believe they went! And they forgot their cell phones? Eegads! Maybe you could call her husband Sunday or Monday and find out how they’re faring. I’d be curious to know!
