Q: When is a good time? Do you have a timeline?
Palin: I have said that that August/September timeframe is important for logistical and legal reasons to jump in there, but
Q: So by next month?
Palin: I think that just practically speaking that has to be kind of a drop dead time. Also, in fairness to supporters, who are standing on the timeline, and this is what I have told Todd over and over again, I don't want to be seen as or perceived as stringing people along, asking supporters, 'Oh don't just jump in there on someone else's bandwagon because I may jump in, so hold off a little bit.' That is not fair to them. After another month or two goes by, they need to know who it is that they can jump behind. Now more than ever, everybody has got to get involved in this 2012 election. They need to get out there and campaign for their chosen candidates, its all the more reason to hurry up and decide.
Q: Will you know by the next time you are here in Iowa whether you will be in, over Labor Day?
Palin: I doubt it. By the next time I am here by September 3? I don't know if within the next couple of weeks I will be ready for an announcement or not.
Q: So the end of September is no longer a viable deadline?
Palin: No, he was asking about my next visit here on September 3, if I would be ready for an announcement September 3. And I said I don't know if I would be ready by September 3.
Q: So the end of September would still be your timetable?
Palin: That is still a possibility for a timetable. Yes, definitely.
I ask Palin's supporters with a wide open mind: What is she waiting for????
Here are a couple reasons. I’m sure others will chime in with more. First, Palin is not going to rely on big money donations from the Republican Establishment. Donations will be from grassroots supporters. Every day she is not in the race is a day she is not spending money. Second, she’s letting the press vet Perry a little more before she steps into the room and sucks up all the oxygen.
“in fairness to supporters... I think she “gets it”, and by this statement she shows that she’s aware that it’s not “all about her” — that there is something larger than herself at stake (beating Obama).
She’ll announce pretty soon. By the end of September, I think.
I can’t even guess whether the announcement will be, “I’m in”, or “I’m out”.
Just my 2c
I also think she's letting the screamers, howlers and assorted crazies at MSNBC and Media Matters exhaust themselves snarling and seizing up in fits over the various repubs. Why not let them use up a lot of resources going after Bachman, Perry, etc?
Seriously, look how they wear themselves out! Michelle made a few minor gaffes and they tried to take her down with them.
Now they're dashing themselves against the rocks over Perry.
By the time she does get in, if she does, her primary opponents will be tired, and the LSM will be ragged.
And the public will start to tune the LSM out. They've heard it too many times.
She also keeps Perry "honest"--he has no temptation to move left.
re: “I ask Palin’s supporters with a wide open mind: What is she waiting for????”
Any number of things:
Money [She won’t have the $ that cronyism provides the other candidates. Sarah will do it without strings attached and the sooner she gets in the more it will cost];
Trig’s possible health issues/care;
To gauge if there will be enough support and dedication to the restoration-of-America-cause to back her when President [Turning this ship around is going to take the people, not just President Palin].
Those are just 3 things I can think of off the top of my head.
“I ask Palin’s supporters with a wide open mind: What is she waiting for???? “
FYI Reagan didn’t anoounce until November of ‘79.
Answer to your question: For the right time.
Now I have a question for you: Why does a kid keep asking “are we there yet”????
For more heads to explode and more sleepless nights for people who don’t know anything about her true character yet they can’t keep talking about her.
The freakin' election isn't for FIFTEEN MONTHS.
What's the rush?
1. Palin has 100% name recognition and is very popular with the GOP base. She does not need to introduce herself to them
2. Another reason to delay is Money. Palin will have to run an insurgent campaign, she will not be able to compete as well with Establishment candidates. A shorter campaign neutralizes that advantage
3. the candidates have not been vetted like Palin, their support to erode over time as the media beat the snot out of them like they did Palin for 3 years.
