Do you do the homework on all companies you buy products from? Your furniture in your house, your washing machine, your television?
How do you do it? Do you take the time to know the entire corporate structure of all of them, CEO, VP, etc. so you know who is a homosexual at all those companies, and at which positions in the hierarchy?
Or is it only certain companies? Do others get a pass from you if a homosexual is their top VP just because it isn’t as convenient for you to know? Just saying...if you go into Staples to buy a pad of paper, do you pull out your phone to search the Internet for company information?
I hope you aren’t offended, I am curious. I want to know how you do it. The rest of us may wish to be as conscientious as you are, but to be honest, we can’t figure out how you do it.
Bears repeating.
I have friends who are vegan (very strict vegetarian) and who spend inordinate amounts of time researching the ingredients and processes of the food they eat, and also the politics of the companies who make the products they eat. They won't patronize companies they haven't researched. So it's not unreasonable to think that Battle may have done the research on sexuality.
It seems to me that avoidance of the products of a company because a top manager is homosexual, applied generally, carries a risk of not being able to buy much of anything, unless research is done rigorously -- and regularly, since management positions shift and new people are being promoted into positions of higher responsibility. Or else, one would have to lead a mighty spartan lifestyle, with no appliances, furniture, food, clothing, etc. Computers and handheld devices are only the tip of the iceberg. And certainly, some of my vegan friends lead what I consider a pretty spartan lifestyle, as a result of their concern.
Perhaps, Battle, you could share your long list of corporate managers and their private sexual practices, for the general benefit of FReepers who are concerned about such things.
Like Rimorel, I don't wish to offend; I am impressed, and wish only to learn.
Oh Dennis,
Exxon has been around FOREVER and Apple is just starting. You jealous folks are nuts. Are you mad because Apple products are so superior from that horrible Microsoft crap? I STILL Have not had a virus with Apple. You can have that other crappy computer anyday of the week. I will stick with my Macbook Pro, I Pad, I Phone and I Pod. Have a great one. Hopefully you don’t have another virus on your computer.
And an 80-pin SCSI port to connect a Syquest.
Or not so much. Apple stock dipped 2.6% in after hours trading, and has now recovered more than half of that.
The fact is that this has been seen coming for a long time and has been factored into the price. Jobs hand picked the management team and has been out on medical leave since early in the year. He's looked like he could drop dead any minute for the last two years.
Of course, if you're so confident that the stock is going to tank, here's your chance to score bigtime by shorting it. Of course, I should mention that I've been listening to people saying that Apple stock is going to crash any day now for the last ten years.
From what I read, he's very private about his personal life. Insiders say that he's gay, but he doesn't talk about it. He doesn't appear to be in any kind of relationship. What people do say is that he's a workaholic who starts emailing underlings at 4:30 in the morning and who prides himself on being the first one in the office in the morning and the last one out at night.
Things don’t usually get better when a person has pancreatic cancer. He has made it much longer than most.
Must be really bad now.
Stocks down 4.24.
If you believe Apple will continue to do well it may be a good time to invest.
Best wishes for Steve Jobs recovery. He is a great man.
I had a 2 yr old pc but it was running :shudder: Vista :shudder: and somewhere along the line I got some malware. I did all the clean up but it was still never right.... I primarly use my computer for my photography.... so one day a couple of months ago Best Buy had a nice deal on a big honking iMac..... I love that machine! as I like to say... it just works! I can process my photos so much quicker now! and I would be lost without my iPhone....I can watch netflix while waiting for an oil change.....and the iPad is a great way to have my portfolio handy!
Jobs has been elected Chairman of the Board
I think you misread the article........
Seriously, I wish Jobs well but the personality cult which surrounds him is ridiculous. He has never been a gear head; Wozniak was the tech brain behind the original Apple, and his contribution is mainly in the area of design, business acumen and aesthetics.......the idea of merging a phone with a hand- held, touch screen computer, for instance. "You guys go figure out the details.............."
He turned Apple around when it was virtually defunct and he deserves great credit for that but count me out of the adulation for the New Age eastern "zen master" persona which he exudes.
Why?? Jobs was just named Chairman of the Board...........Seems like most of the readers of this thread never read past the title...........
All that money and Jobs can’t buy another liver?
I don’t have a problem if someone wishes to patronize or not patronize an establishment, company or service on whatever criteria they choose.
That is their business, not mine.
I take umbrage to someone who takes a derogatory tone towards those who don’t follow the same course of action, and the person takes a “cafeteria catholic” approach to the issue. If someone wants to make an issue out of something, fine. People can accept you at your opinion.
But if one is derogatory towards others, there is an expectation of rigid consistency. It is the price of being a rigid ideologue on an issue.
“...and all your money won’t another minute buy.”
I think you’re misreading his actions.
Of course the same is true of Microsoft-haters, etc. It's hardly just Apple that attracts such types.
As you say, they are welcome to buy or not buy any company's products for any reason they choose. I have no issue with that at all, even if I think it's silly.
And also as you say, expecting that others will adhere to one's own rigid rules, and being derogatory when others do not, requires that one set a completely consistent example and back it up with consistent actions.
Consistency in one's purchasing choices shows that one is not merely a hater, but that instead one is using one's purchasing power in a reasoned, intelligent way.
Surely, if a bunch of vegans can do so, conservatives can do as well.

On the contrary. Yesterday I predicted a small hit today, followed by a recovery; then another small hit when Jobs actually dies, followed by another recovery.
According to the new reports today, I am correct on the first events (hit and recovery have occurred). I am patient, and wish Jobs a continued long life; but I will be interested to see if the second events also play out as predicted.
