The Federal Emergency Management Agency is keeping a line open to President Obama and the First Family as they vacation on Marthas Vineyard and Hurricane Irene growing both in size and strength appears destined to pelt the Bay State sometime Sunday.
An early POTUS pull out has not been ordered, but FEMA Administrator Craig Fugate told the Herald this morning, We briefed the president yesterday and are keeping him and his team updated.
As authorities forecast yesterday, Irene exploded into a Category 3 storm overnight, now with maximum sustained wind speeds of 115 mph. She is churning west northwest at 12 mph, Bill Read, director of the National Hurricane Center, said this morning.
She got very well organized overnight and is currently in the southeast Bahamas. As she enters warm waters, conditions are favorable for further intensification. It could actually get stronger, said Read, who anticipates the hurricane taking a more northerly track tomorrow.
Read said Irene is growing in size and could be a big threat to New England by Sunday.
He said the eye of the storm is forecast to sweep near or over the outer banks of North Carolina Saturday night and cling to the coastline as Irene travels up the Interstate 95 corridor, where FEMA has begun deploying emergency teams in the Carolinas the Mid-Atlantic.
But Fugate warned skeptical residents not to focus on where the eye is because Irene will impact such a large area of the East Coast, with the potential for life-threatening coastal storm surges.
Even tropical force winds could result in trees coming down and power outages, Fugate said.
The pending doom has already persuaded Kenny Chesney to move up his soldout performance with Zac Brown Sunday at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro to Friday night for safety reasons, the country music superstar said in an e-mail today.
I want the last weekend of the Goin Coastal Tour to be a great experience for everybody. But I also want it to be the safest experience for everyone, Chesney said. Ive always said Foxboro is a highlight of our tour, because the fans are ready for a great night of music and fun no matter what night it is!
Sundays tickets will be honored Friday; however, anyone who cant make the rescheduled show will receive a full refund at their point of purchase. Chesneys show Saturday at Foxboro is still on.
Yesterdays historic East Coast earthquake a rattling 5.8 on the Richter scale reminded people that the unexpected can happen, he said. Weve got to be prepared for a variety of things and the best place to start is a family emergency plan. Unlike an earthquake, this hurricane is a forecast event that we are watching.
Every other moment between now and inauguration of a new President are a clear and present danger to the survival of the Republic.
or we can look at this as I do. This is just one more shining example of Obama's reverse Midas touch...... Everything he touches turns to SH* T.
Moochelle will ride it out. She’s a real man. At the same time that Hillary had to flee Africa because it wasn’t safe. Moochelle was flying over there for a vacay. That woman is like the Rock of freaking Gilbralter. When she has a trunk full of our money, she ain’t scares of squat.
“Rally ‘round the moocharilla, boys. There’s Michelle, standing like a stone wall”
Hmmm...

earthquake in D.C. yesterday and now a hurricane is taking aim at the vacay. does it seem to anyone else that mother nature hates this idiot almost as much as we do?
The diabolical Tea Party can even control hurricanes!

This hurricane is going to turn out to sea. It may bring some rain and waves but not much else.
Nearly choked on my coffee.
