Us West Coast Freepers are watching this all with a bit of amusement.

Yes, this is funny for us SoCal Freepers.

But I will say that our quakes only affect one big city, rather than the 10-12 that this one has.

Same amusement us East Coast Freepers have when 1/4 inch of rain turn the LA Basin into a flood zone.

Amusement?

Well, sort of could understand that...but keep in mind the buildings out east are not built for earthquakes. Nor the roads, bridges, tunnels, subways, etc.

A modest ‘quake could cause significant damage.

You can search fault line maps and not find any on the east coast. That’s why we’re all freaking out.

I'm a West Coast Freeper and am not finding this amusing at all.

Those poor folks in the east are not used to quakes and this was a 5.9 less than a mile deep. Probably felt stronger.

Also the buildings may not be as quake-proof as those out here.

When California faces a Category 3 hurricane, we'll smirk.

Actually we won't. We'll be concerned. What westerners don't understand is that in east coast cities there are masonry buildings that are 300 years old. A 6.0 is a big deal in the east. Especially when a Cat 3 hurricane is due to arrive in four days.

Actually, you don’t understand. The East Coast is not the same terra firma as the West Coast. The rocks are very old and when they shift, it causes monumental shaking, not rolling but shaking.

The plates here are like long rock fingers, think of the Blue Ridge Mountains if you know them, long ancient rock strata. We don’t get many quakes here, but when we do it’s very weird.

Regards,
AR
