Sen. John McCain was put on the defensive Sunday for comparing some of his GOP colleagues to hobbits during the debt ceiling debate.
The Arizona Republican had taken to the Senate floor in July to admonish conservatives for unrealistic expectations and quoted a Wall Street Journal editorial that compared them to the characters from J.R.R. Tolkiens The Lord of the Rings.
What I was talking about, quoting from a Wall Street Journal editorial, was that there was a segment of the Republicans in the Senate Republican Senators that said we cannot raise the debt limit until we pass a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution, McCain said when asked on CBS Face the Nation about his choice of words. The Senate would not pass would not get 67 votes. ... We could not have passed it. That was unrealistic, hobbits are unrealistic, it was unrealistic to say.

None of the Republican establishment gets it. McConnel, Kyle, McCain, Hatch, Snowe, they all need to go.
Were I even more cynical I might have said,
What do you think of the possibility that Sarah Palin moved to Arizona in order to "inherit" John McCain's seat as a reward for failing to ascend to the presidency?
Of course, I couldn't possibly have good reason to be that cynical about the National Republican Leadership, could I?
I think the fear is what he may do while he still is in the Senate.
Given his recent statements, I am afraid, too.
McCain is as responsible as anyone else for Obama’s victory in 2008. If he had a pair, if he had been willing to go after Zero for the usurper and liar and socialist and anti-Christian/anti-Jew that he is, if he had RUN for the Presidency instead of WALKING, we wouldn’t be having this discussion today.
His “hobbit” attack only serves to underscore his RHINO roots and certify that he was the wrong nominee then and the wrong spokesperson now to reflect on Republican values.
The sooner he exits stage left the better.
That will be his epitaph - so incompetent that he couldn’t beat the worst guy to run for President.
None of the Republican establishment gets it. McConnel, Kyle, McCain, Hatch, Snowe, they all need to go.
I stand Corrected,LOL Thanks!
John McWormtongue once again declares his fealty to Sauron, of Mordor on the Potomac.
OMG. Keep digging jughead.
McLame are you REALLY this Stupid?
READ THE DAMN BOOK JUAN.
He is senile and needs to retire.
Had to look him up, since I remember seeing "Miller" on currency.
Wrong [G. William] Miller, by about a decade.
William E. also had a daughter. Named her Stephanie.
That Stephanie.
Tea Party should embrace the comparison to Hobbits.
Hobbits are seemingly insignificant race in Middle Earth, who, by their actions saved their world, despite the assessment that their task was impossible and dangerous.
The Tea Party is the rising up of those who are considered insignificant by the Washington Elite, including Sen. McCain.
What Stephanie?
I am not insulted at all at being referred to as a Hobbit, even though McLame intended it as a derogatory reference.
Hobbits, as described in LOTR, are stout-hearted, faithful, industrious, cheerful people who enjoy good food and beer.
What’s not to like about that?
Hobbits are also courageous, intelligent, resourceful and capable of overcoming tremendous odds. The grand victory of good over evil portrayed in the Lord of the Rings was only possible due to the perseverance and steadfast loyalty of the Hobbits.
Again, what’s not to like?
I think we should adopt “Tea Party Hobbits” as a label of pride and that Juan for it.
He, on the other hand, is less than dust.
Stephanie Miller. The liberal talk show hostess.
I believe I've only seen her as a guest talking head now and then.
Never came across her radio show to my knowledge.
Glad he lost the election. Now I can go back wishing he would vanish from the government.
The only good thing he ever did for us was introduce us to Sarah Palin
YES! 33rd Anniversary so I can’t comment more, but yes!
John McCain: Cave Troll of the Senate.
