For the second time in a week, a flash mob robbed a convenience store in our area. Could it be a new trend in the Washington region?
In the latest incident, 10 women stormed the Shop Express convenience store along Benning Road in northeast Washington at about 3:15 a.m. Thursday.
They loaded up on food, drinks and snacks at different parts of the store.
Some of the women were carrying bags to hold some of the items. Then they all rushed out of the store at the same time without paying.
Employees said that each of the women stole about $60 worth of merchandise.
"Stealing is a very normal thing at convenience stores," one employee said. "It happens every day -- morning, evening, night. But such kind of thing I have never seen before."
Store employees said this was the third such incident at the store in the past couple of weeks, and that if the trend continues, the 24-hour store will have to close at night.
This store is not alone in its flash mob troubles. Last Saturday, a flash mob took over a 7-Eleven in Germantown.
Investigators in Montgomery County said they know who some of the suspects are, but they are hoping people will recognize the others and call police.
I would not be so sure...
*Forget about shooting these hoodlums. The best way to stop this is to include an assortment of food laced with cyanide or some other deadly poison on the shelves — with some kind of inconspicuous markings on them so the store owner will know not to sell them to legitimate customers. *
VERY COOL!
Yeah... it's not 1870 any more I guess. ;-)
Look to the far right of the broken blinders... I swear I can see kitty eyes looking in!
:)
I’m sorry I have never seen your name before (that I can remember).. but it’s a damn good name (9/11)
Good judgement call ;)
Don't ya hate it when that happens
I feel your pain.
Actually I saw it first in a UK newspaper about 10 days ago - they should know! And yes it needs to catch on.
That's the standard reply from someone who has no rational response to something they disagree with: label the opinion "ignorant" and move on.
“To only let one or a few in at a time doesnt stop that one person from holding the door open for their 50 buddies.”
A possible solution for that is to install rotating doors. Sure, they’re more expensive and require more room, but they can’t be held open. Install a button next to it so customers can get out, have an override switch for the cashier.
I know what you’re talking about. I remember the first time I went to Egypt and every building and street corner had two guys who looked sort of like Omar Sharif with machine guns. I couldn’t understand being searched when we entered a building. That seems like a life-time ago.
What I find strange about these 7/11 invasions is the thugs always go for the candy, twinkies and soda pop. Michelle says they really want fresh fruit but nasty whitey won’t sell them what they want in the ghetto.
LOL
you’re right!
I see them too!
Amish again?
