Obama: I have it tougher than Abe Lincoln

President Barack Obama said yesterday in Decorah, Iowa, that he absorbs more political criticism than Abraham Lincoln, the assassinated 16th U.S. president, attracted from his Civil War critics.

The comment came during a question-and-answer session where one invited audience member asked Obama how he deals with his congressional critics in the GOP. “The Congress doesn’t seem to be a good partner. You said so yourself, they’re more interested in seeing you lose than [seeing] the country win,” the questioner lamented.

“Democracy is always a messy business in a big country like this,” Obama responded. “When you listen to what the federalists said about the anti-federalists … those guys were tough. Lincoln, they used to talk about him almost as bad as they talk about me.”

The comparison “is hysterical … that is really laughable in many respects,” said Alvin Felzenberg, the author of a book on American presidents. “You couldn’t print things today they said about Lincoln.” Felzenberg teaches at the Annenberg School for Communication at the University of Pennsylvania, and was the chief spokesman for the 9/11 Commission.

Criticism of Lincoln in his day “was even more vitriolic than what you see about Obama,” said Eric Foner, a Pulitzer Prize-winning presidential historian at Columbia University. “Obama is a guy who has a thin skin and does not take criticism well.” Foner’s Pulitzer-winning volume was titled ”The Fiery Trial: Abraham Lincoln and American Slavery.”

Even limiting the comparison solely to “criticisms” made, and not addressing the absurdities of trying to compare himself to Lincoln in any way shape or form, Obama speaks in gross ignorance.

There were so many unspeakable things said and published about Lincoln that this is simply more clear evidence that Obama is the most ignorant person ever to occupy our White House.

This clown has long drifted into the absurd.

Nobody told him it's gauche to compare oneself to chrished, honored individuals of the past, even if done in faux modesty.

What a trailer park doofus!

Wait. He has it tougher than Lincoln? Is it just me, or did I miss the news that half of the country is engaged in armed rebellion?

He forgot to check the date on that proposed press release.

It's about 6-8 months premature...

Just proves that this POS jackwagon just refuses to grow up.
Affirmative action jobs, political thuggery to get his way into the US Senate, a fawning prostitute media, his past completly hidden from view, living like a rock star, golf everyday, buzzing NYC in AF1, vacations like no other president and still he complains?
baraq couldn’t survive one day in Lincoln’s time.
The media at the time treated Lincoln worse than any critic of obama and golf was still isolated to Scotland.

This goof deserves to shunned in the old school way.

I’m more than ambivalent about Honest Abe...as a southerner and the real birth of the Federal Leviathan issues.

But Lincoln had a war all around him and was surrounded by factions on his own side that were beyond compromise

A very hard spot...to his credit.

His terms upon the surrender of my peoples...will always be appreciated.

Humbly submitted.

Obama has nothing in common with Lincoln character or determination wise.

I wonder if whether or not OBama will accuse the country of trying to drive him out of the neighborhood like blacks were in the fifties and before. He all too easily forgets that he is there because he is President, not because it is his personal home.

I think the biggest problem will be getting Michelle out, chances are they’ll have to send in animal control or zoology specialists (like those who handle large animals), or as a last resort, circus trainers (who know how to handle bears) to deal with her.

I think obama was just referring to the “bad” press, which of course is still in the bag for Obama. Although perhaps he is just warming us up for silencing opposing voices like Lincoln did.

What really bothers me is when he says things like

“Democracy is always a messy business in a big country like this,”

Well - we sure know how to clean that mess up, don’t we Herr obama?

And the other thing - the whole Federalist and anti-Federalist thing. He’s probally like my kid’s publik skool teacher, and thinks the liberals are still likended to the the anti-federalists.

‘__________full meltdown mode.’

By July 2009 I was calling an implosion (not on FR - wasn’t a member yet).
Just didn’t predict when - - -

By then I realised he was on TV just about every day - hollerin’ at me/us!
Speeches and addresses delivered in a strident way - so very unpresidential.
By then I was already sick of it/him.
