Oh, you think that, like Rush Limbaugh, Perry never voted for Reagan?

Of course not. He was still a left wing Democrat in those days, too soon o0ut 9of his commie college days and fired up against Conservatives. Don’t forget he was later Al Gore’s campaign manager!
Perry’s Problematic Even today he must be judged by the company he keeps: Illegal immigrants and these people. Pals - http://www.americanthinker.com/articles/../2011/08/perrys_problematic_pals.html

Might I suggest specifics? We begin to assemble pro/con charts, and emotional generalities serve no general good.
The first time I ever heard anything about Perry was his decision to mandate shots for teens to prevent HPV. As a pro-life leader, I was shocked to know a conservative Texas guv would think that way. I now put that bit of info on the con side of the Perry chart.
And we all appreciate specific details of his voting record by Texans, or others who have kept score, or know personal anecdotes. But to make the bald statement that he is not a Conservative is not accurate. He is not WHOLLY Conservative on a number of issues, notably immigration.
His support of Gore is bad bad bad, but it was 1988 and how old was he then? I became a Conservative just prior my 30th birthday, and cast a first Conservative vote for Reagan in 1980. Most important is: What has he been the past decade?

Perry admits to voting for Carter in 1976.
The Internet rumor is that he also voted for Carter in 1980 and Mondale in 1984, but he hasn't said so.
In the 70s and 80s there were still old school Democrats in elected office who privately voted Republican in the top race.

I don’t know if he voted for Reagan, but it wouldn’t surprise me, since has publicly stated that he voted for Bush 41 in 1988 (after Dukakis got the nomination).

The bottom line: I will vote for Perry, Palin, Bachman, Romney, or Mickey Mouse vs obama.
I will not stay home because my perfect candidate isn't on the ballot. I would walk several miles to the polls, if I had to, to vote against obama.
To: Minus_The_Bear
I suppose this is where some jerk points out to the absolutists that Reagan voted for FDR, probably all four times. But we shouldn’t vote for anyone who was ever a Democrat.
We probably also shouldn’t mention that Algore was pretending to be prolife back then.
To: Minus_The_Bear
I would say he did not and would bet he would not today. Completely different people, Reagan was a successful man before he went into politics. Perry has slopped at the public trough his whole life.

Something Perry shares in common with Slick Willard. BOTH never voted for Reagan.

Yes, and IMO he’s the establishment’s “tea party” pick to take on Romney in the republican primary- lesson learned: they’re scared to death of Michelle Bachmann!

Another piece of smoke screen that matters NOT AT ALL...no he didn't vote for Reagan...ask him he'll tell you...my precious Army Major MI Officer voted 2 times for clintoon...what does that matter...he would never TODAY vote any way but Republican...between my daughter and myself we taught him better...he saw the light as did Perry.
You can bring as much negative as you want...IT DOES NOT MATTER...Rick Perry has a record for jobs and the economy...BOTTOM LINE...that is ALL Americans care about...everything else is all smoke and mirrors....

I can’t believe how some around here are drinking the Perry koolaid. He is slick and I won’t support him as long as there are other good contenders out there.
