Gov. Rick Perry talks like George W. Bush but might win like Ronald Reagan.
Last weekends Ames straw poll made for great political theater, but the important action was taking place in South Carolina and New Hampshire, where Texas Gov. Rick Perry kicked off his presidential campaign.
Perry, the straight-talking three-term governor, is bringing to the race a message and biography that couldnt contrast any more starkly with President Obamas.
He grew up in rural Paint Creek, Texas, farming cotton in his early years, and attending the states land-grant university, Texas A&M. Obama went to Harvard Law School, earned his political chops in Chicago, spending much of his early career in academia. Perry has governed a low-tax, low-regulation state at a time when the president has sought to expand governments role in the economy. The Texas governor's blunt advocacy of conservatism and faith-tinged rhetoric couldnt be any different from Obamas nuanced rhetoric and cautious governing style.

Romney was not a two-term Governor.
Thank you for thinking logically.
But Romney wouldn't get elected, at least not as a republican. He would get crushed in the general election.
A well known gun-grabber, pro-queer agenda, abortionist, dog torturing bastard with magic underwear would lose even in many red states. There is just no way the majority of the heartland conservatives would show up at the polls to vote for that asshat.
Step on the brakes, you’re out of control!
Your premise is that being a RINO is good.
Number one, being a RINO is not good.
Number two, Reagan was nothing like a RINO. What makes a RINO is failure to do what you say. Reagan kept his promises, which is why the left feared him so much.
There’s only one presidential contender out there feared by the left, and she’s not a RINO because she keeps her promises.
Front runner of the Washington establishment like Ford was their front runner in 1976 and Bush the Elder was in 1980.
Hopefully, this will be another 1980 instead of another 1976. The people will again reject the establishment’s pick and we’ll get Bachmann or Palin as president.

It's not just a soundbite.
I already know what Palin’s record on spending is — its mixed. She supported the “Bridge to Nowhere” and was pretty much a moderate. Take a look at:
http://www.cato-at-liberty.org/gov-sarah-palins-record-on-taxes-and-spending/
I’m still deciding on Perry. Spending went up in Texas under his watch but on the part of the Texas budget he had some control over, he cut it. I’d say overall he is more of a fiscal conservative than Palin.
Then again, as much as I like Sarah Palin, I’ve never bought into the idea that she is some 100% conservative. She was a strong reform governor. Give her credit for that. But on taxes and spending, she was a moderate Republican.
How about Ronald Reagan?
“I know Perry is not the ideal conservative, Tea-party, red-meat type candidate.”
Let’s look at that again:
I know Perry is not the ideal conservative, Tea-party, red-meat type candidate.
I know Perry is not the ideal conservative, Tea-party, red-meat type candidate.
I know Perry is not the ideal conservative, Tea-party, red-meat type candidate.
What people tend to forget, how they govern a state is how they will govern a nation. RINOS are just that RINOS, moderates are squishy, fence straddlers.
We need a STRONG CONSERVATIVE, with a touch of an old time preacher with FIRE IN THE BELLY and TV presence.
Because after 4 years 0 will have all the dirt on them all from grade school on via FBI searches.
My guess from that video is she will be fine with Perry and endorse him sooner than later. Wait for the latest polls. If Perry pushes out ahead of Romney or gets endorsed by people like Nikki Haley or Tim Pawlenty, Palin will too.
And oh yeah, I forgot a FEW other bad things about Reagan:
7. He never went to church.
8. He divorced his first wife.
9. His second wife, Nancy, was a devotee of astrology.
You do know that out of 17,000 votes cast at the Iowa Straw Poll, Palin got less than 35 votes, don’t you?
Another logical thinker.
I agree that IF she gets in the race she will be formidable.
Another four years and same old crap. I ask you did you rinos force anyone to vote for mccain with that BS line. And your answer is, put Perry as head of the ticket and I will stay home. Well actually, I plan on voting against my new republican congressman since he voted for boners cave so I will just skip the rest of the ticket.
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
So you like President Obama, and SCJ’s Kagan and Sotomayor. Good for you.
About the only reason this country hasn’t completely disintegrated is because of SCJ’s Scalia (Reagan appointee), Thomas (Bush I appointee), Roberts (Bush II), and Alito (Bush II).
Choices have consequences. Rarely are the choices we have ideal, so we have to do the best we can. We can live with the best choices, even if they are not ideal. Wrong choices are often fatal.
Picture four more years of Barack Obama. Think about the deficits, the virulent anti-business policies, the virulent anti-Christian attitudes, the deliberate erosion of our military strength. Gun grabbing. UN worship. Throwing Israel under the bus. An explosion of unions, environmentalism, multiculuralism, unemployment. A virtual elimination of the middle class.
That is what you will be choosing, what you will be causing, what you will be supporting.
WHO are the party poo bahs that trashed Palin? How many votes do they have?
>> What makes a RINO is failure to do what you say. <<
Uh, thanks for the input, but I don’t think you’ve given us an “operationally useful” definition.
My thought too. I think she is seeing how he catches on and whether he gets a credible campaign up and running. If he is a disaster out of the gate, she might still jump in. But if, as expected, he gets a national campaign going and does decent in the polls, I fully expect her to endorse him and campaign with him. They are personal friends and, despite what some conservatives think, are pretty close ideologically.
