Texas does not need A&M and OU is not going to the SEC.
I could see Texas and OU both going to the Big 10 or PAC 12 as both OU and UT are top tier programs.
Actually, I would like to see such a move as it would mean better football and that Texas fans would not have to do road trips to backwater towns like Waco, Ames, Iowa, Manhattan, KS and College Station.
At least in Ann Arbor or Columbus you can eat at a decent restaurant and the local co-eds won’t be drooling Red Man Chew.
First, A&M is right to go. It’s the only way they’ll climb out from under UT’s shadow. If the SEC will have them, great move for them. I suspect the SEC is waiting for two things before giving the Aggies the green light - the Aggies have to formally declare they are breaking their alliance with the Big XII and willing to pay the financial penalties for leaving and, secondly, the SEC needs to find a 14th team willing to do the same.
Secondly, Oklahoma has already said they’re going wherever Texas is going but the Big 10 doesn’t want Oklahoma because they aren’t an AAU member (academics). The Pac-12 isn’t really keen on adding OU for the same reason but they’ll probably overlook it if it means adding Texas.
Academic snobbery is also why some other schools may not be as excited to join the SEC as you might think. Missouri and North Carolina would be two such schools.
Finally, Texas is already lining up independents like BYU and Notre Dame for future seasons, making me think they’re fully prepared to go independent if it comes to that.
