Report: Reid Picks Kerry, Murray And Baucus For Deficit Super Panel
NPR ^ | August 9, 2011 | Frank James

Sen. Harry Reid has made his picks for the deficit super committee whose task it is to recommend with $1.5 trillion in federal spending cuts over 10 years — Senators John Kerry of Massachusetts, Patty Murray of Washington State and Max Baucus of Montana.

Several news outlets reported Tuesday afternoon that they learned the names from Democratic sources. The committee will have 12 members, three more named by Sen. Mitch McConnell, the Senate minority leader, and six named by House Republicans and Democrats.

By choosing Murray, who chairs the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee that will be trying to defend the 23 Senate seats currently held by Democrats, Reid ensures that whatever recommendation his people agree to will be deeply informed by the Democrats' desire to hold onto their slim majority.

Murray is also on the Senate Appropriations Committee's defense subcommittee and represents a state with a number of military facilities and contractors.

So her presence on the super committee should give some cover to Senate Democrats when they ask Republicans to agree to deeper Defense Department cuts.

I posted to Jim on our FReepathon thread, that Mitch better return the favor by appointing Mike Lee, Rand Paul and____?

Marco Rubio, Ron Johnson?

I just know that troll, McCain, is lobbying like mad to get on this committee. He can't wait to ensure that no conservative principles are met by the deal, and then walk out and boast about what a great statesman he is to let the democrats have their way once again.

Their collective IQ is about room temperature with Murray well into a 3 digit negative number.

Have any of these three ever voted against a spending bill that did not involve national defense?

I wonder who the other three Democrats for this panel are going to be? Hugo Chavez, Joseph Stalin, and Mao tse-tung?

Mitch, the Gobbler, will be going for the likes of McNasty, Loafer_Lite_Lindsay, and (just to make a trifecta) the ever-popular Senator from Maine....

Tax and spend Commies. Kerry is the worst and he’s lethal on the talk shows. I wouldn’t sit in the same room with him.

I am shocked that Schumer wasn’t appointed, but I sure would love to see Rand Paul speak for the GOP side....lol.

DeMint is beyond wonderful, but he’s always a gentleman.

Rubio would shred them on TV and Mike Lee isn’t shy either.

Dammit, I know you’re right. McCain will do anything to get on that committee.

Sheesh, with his *friend* Kerry!

God save us!

Start calling Mitch and flood his offices with mail.

A liberal moron, another liberal moron, and Reid’s lap poodle. Figure it out! Harry, we expected nothing less from you!

Based on Harry’s picks, we can expect no compromises unless they include significant military cuts and tax increases.
