An abashed Mike Gallagher appeared today on America Live with Megyn Kelly to (sort of) defend the remarks he made earlier this summer about Kellys three-month-long maternity leave. Back then, Gallagher called such a luxurious leave a racket.
Today, once again in the hosts chair after the birth of her second child, daughter Yardley, four months, everybodys favorite Fox anchor appeared keen to elicit a retraction from the radio host. She all but got it.
Gallagher shamefacedly muttered several unintelligible excuses including a half-hearted hint that he had hoped the comment wouldnt make it through the grapevine to the great Kelly herself before saying (one hopes jokingly!), Id been drinking.
Now youre more along the path of what I expected, Kelly quipped back to the man she assured viewers is, in fact, her friend.
But the power mom didnt let Gallagher off the hook that easily.
What is it about getting pregnant and carrying a baby for nine months and giving birth to a child that you think doesnt deserve a little time for bonding and recovery? she asked, after asserting at the outset of the interview that Gallaghers comment was a moronic thing to say.
Gallagher really had no words. As the interview faded out, he could be heard stating frankly, Im sorry, before welcoming Kelly back to Foxs dayside.
He wasnt the only person glad Kelly is back to revive the program that bears her name. Numerous fans on social media sites happily sounded off about Kellys new haircut and celebrated her return to Fox.
Unlike Gallagher, I find nothing appalling in Fox funding a three-month maternity leave for one of the top names in news. If anything, Im just disappointed for Kellys sake that she had to return so soon. She says shes not the sort of mother to be effective as a stay-at-home mom (Id worry that Id get stale because Id be missing my old life), but I cant help feeling at least a little bit that Americas gain is Yates, Yardleys and Kellys loss. Mother-child time is pretty precious, after all. And while all kinds of families manage to make any number of approaches to child-rearing work, in general, daycare does few favors for children (which is not to say Kellys kids are in daycare I dont know that for a fact). So, as much as I love Megyn Kelly on-air, if someday we see a little less of her because she wants to scale it back and spend more time with her kiddos, Ill be OK with that.
No, I don’t. I’ve gone back twice already. Either you need a few beers or a few shots, and a soak in a hottub. You’re making mountains out of ant hills.
Thank you! I just turn the channel. Her arrogance is very unattractive and she would have been an average reporter in the business 40 years ago.

Spoken like a true lib, what other laws are acceptable to you?
Keep smokin your stuff, I'm just fine.
I don’t know why you addressed your comments to my post as they don’t really apply. I stand by my comments. I hope they didn’t come off as demeaning as yours.
LOL....you challenged me on a video you admitted you didn't even watch, IOW you spoke out of your a$$.
I put up, you should just shut up.
Give it a rest.
WooHoo Megyn’s back,her first victim Mike Gallagher.NEXT.
I asked you to provide information. You’re making a federal case out of this. Now you’re speaking out your ass and trying to start an arguement where none need exist. You need to get back onto your meds and stop decompensating.
f a woman NEEDS 3+ months to recover from delivery, then she needs to find work elsewhere when she is able.
What ? Maybe in this wonderful country some women don’t NEED to find work elsewhere...Guess Megan just WANTED to go back to Fox...her choice...big deal....
3 months is nothing when breastfeeding a newborn, recovering from either normal vaginal ( sorry guys) delivery or a c/section ( which is, by the way, the most invasive common surgery after open heart- try that with a newborn, gentlemen)Many on this thread scoffed at the idea of “needing 3 months “ for recovery...It’s just the civilized, family-friendly thing to do...and NO I didn’t support the Family Leave Act . I think it should be between the employer and employee.Hopefully the employer is not a NEANDERTHAL like so many of you ... I am shocked by some of the responses....ashamed of some of you to be honest....geeeesh....glad I’m not married to any of you....yuck....
Other laws that are acceptable to me:
Child labor laws are a good call. Pullups are expensive, but I'm not about to make my 3 year old start fronting his potty training efforts.
Workplace safety laws are pretty awesome as well. When my grandfather lost his leg in an industrial accident in the 1920’s, the B&W treated him very well and paid for all of his medical expenses. When he was well enough to return, the company found an appropriate job for him. He was one of the lucky few of that era since it was the B&W's fault.
You made a decision to be a business owner and I went in a different direction with my career. There are pros and cons to both of our situations.
Seriously, have a drink. Have two in fact, one for yourself and one for me. I may not smoke, but I do love a cold Blue Moon on warm nights like this.
My wife had a C-section, and was shopping (by her choice) 2 days later. A month later, I deployed to Saudi again and she handled the house & 3 teens.
What Fox does for benefits is their business, but Megyn wants it to be a requirement. If you can afford to go without someone for 3 months, why do you need them at all? And if you have to hire a temp while paying someone else a salary, then you have just created a reason to hire men instead of women.
At whose expense?
Are you a shareholder of Fox stock? Bring it up at the next shareholder meeting.
Fox is a company, and the powers that be there decided to give one of their top "stars" all the time she felt she needed, in order to keep her happy. It was a business decision. And IMHO, it was a good one.

Yo clinton8r—Sorry about clicking on the wrong post.
As for my being demeaning—I’m fed up with a few freepers who have a serious problem with women in power positions. It flies in the face of everything a genuine conservative believes in. Conservatives chose the best people for jobs and don’t care one whit about gender, ethnicity or age.
I’m also tired of people who refuse to call things what they are. For instance we call Marxists progressives, liberals, socialists and leftists. We ought to be calling them what they are. We even persist in pretending that The Usurping Marxist Onada is a US citizen and eligible to run for president. He has never presented a credible document that proves any such thing. His grandmother even says he was born in Kenya for goodness sake.
BTW, here in Canada, we have mandated 50 weeks of potential leave. The employment insurance fund pays up to 55% of your income for 50 weeks. Usually, this is maternity leave — but, spouses are also allowed to take a portion of the leave. Of course, this is at the expense of every employer and employee, who pays into the employment insurance fund.
If you're a government worker — or employed by some large unionized corporations, your wages will be topped up to as much as 95% of the normal rate.
potential leave = parential leave
