Violence erupted in broad daylight this afternoon as rioters surrounded police vans, looted lorries and targeted shops in a series of attacks across London.
Scores of police raced to Hackney as a mob of hooded youths began hurling missiles at the officers. There was also sporadic violence in nearby Dalston where shops and businesses were attacked and youths clashed with police and set fire to cars outside Lewisham Town Hall.
Other areas of London were braced for violence as shops closed early in Peckham, Stratford and Islington and barriers were erected outside Westfield Shopping Centre. Kilburn High Street has also been closed off.

One of the Freeper mention on that another thread I think good ole Freeper is right
The police don’t have another gear to step up to in the UK. They don’t have nearly enough armed police and their own policies hamstring them.
On top of that, there’s the “Stop! or I shall yell Stop again! And blow my little whistle!” issue they have.
Well not entirely.....one of the routes of this violence was the police shooting someone dead lol.
I didn’t say they didn’t have any armed police. I said they didn’t have enough armed police.
And they make a big point of advertising that most cops aren’t armed with lethal weapons there. Hence, “stop or I shall shout and blow my whistle” still being an issue.
So you want to riot, eh? Fine, then the carnival is cancelled!
That’ll learn ‘em.
Part of the carnival is on fire anyway...
Exactly right.
Call in the Gurkha Regiment. Give them a simple order: “Clear the streets of the rioters and looters. Deadly force is authorized.”
Kick booty and get it done. Make sure you post photos of rioter and looter bodies on the BBC and Times.
The other rioters and looters will understand it isn’t a game. Arson and looting have real and fatal consequences. Deal with it.
