What is it with Warren? He has transitioned from a Billy Graham light to some sort of PC crossover type with his fawning over Islam and relentless derogation of Evangelicals.

Whether or not the Koran is monotheistic, Muslims would be better off as Scientologists. Not that Scientology has a better conception of G-d, but because it would shut them up and give them something to do besides trying to conquer the world and oppress all its populations.

If I want to understand the sources of Sumerian religion, I’d go to an archaeology and/or anthropology course. A living religion is to be studied as it is.

Truth is, I love studying that stuff; the Dead Sea Scrolls, Cairo Geniza, archaeological finds and such.

But I don’t go to synagogue to learn about it. Don’t go to church for it, either, and certainly not to study Bowdlerized readings from the Koran, so that you can submit to your putative conquerors with a clear, propagandized conscience.

It’s not time to spread the other cheeks. I don’t presume to tell you how to be a Christian, but please do be one, rather than a Moose Limb. Walk out on these readings, if they are held in your church. Join one that doesn’t have them, that preaches fighting back.

Check it again. Where is the telescoping, or skipped generations? They are not evident in the Scriptures that I can see through multiple readings. They are not there!

Genesis 11:10-26 gives an exact account in years from Shem’s son Arpachshad, born two years after the flood all the way to Abram. Doing the easy math plainly stated by the Scriptures, Abram and his siblings were in existance 292 years after the flood. And Noah did not die until 350 years after the flood!

Yes, I know. Sobering.

Now we can argue about the validity of Scripture, weather you believe it to be true or a fable, but it says plainly what it says.

Hmm, I think I see the problem here ~ first of all MY CHURCH doesn't do Koranic readings. On the other hand they do have Sunday School ~ even though the founders in the early 1800s didn't believe in that practice.

People discuss things in Sunday School, particularly in the Adult Education Classes.

Most of the opposition to Sunday School arose out of a belief in WORD MAGIC ~ that if you hear words in a certain sequence, they can take control of you even if they aren't in your own language.

Some of us don't believe in WORD MAGIC.

Counting the generations brings exogenous factors into the understanding of the text. Some people believe in doing that. I don’t. It is what it is.

Most, if not all, of the genealogies in the Bible, both New and Old Testament, are telescoped. The two in Genesis, which are not easily cross-referenced with anything else, probably follow the practice of the author of the Pentateuch (if that was, indeed, Moses--at least up to the point that he died) and everyone else. The burden is on Usherites to demonstrate that the usual and customary practice was deviated from either way when comparing these genealogies with all the rest of them. As an undergraduate I attended one of the most conservative non-Catholic Christian colleges around (we had Bob Jones, Jr. speak and various other BJU folk there, both as speakers and as professors), and even they admitted to the telescoping of generations in Biblical genealogies.

More on the subject HERE.

I believe Mware is talking about a Catholic Mass.....we have two readings before the Gospel, which is ALWAYS New Testament Jesus talking....the first is often the Old Testament, the second always the New........the PREACHING by the Priest after the Gospel is almost 100% about the Gospel....Jesus’s words and actions.

Arafat the clerk?

He was the face man ~ plus, the Europeans gave him money to pass around. As far as being a leader, probably not.
