Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner has told President Barack Obama that he intends to stay on the job, Treasury said in a statement on Sunday afternoon.
"Secretary Geithner has let the president know that he plans to stay on in his position at Treasury," Assistant Treasury Secretary Jenni LeCompte said. "He looks forward to the important work ahead on the challenges facing our great country."
Geithner had indicated he might leave after a debt-limit increase was approved, but administration officials indicated that both Obama and the White House chief of staff had urged Geithner not to leave now.

He can’t leave or else all of his lawbreaking might be exposed.
Isn’t it illegal to threaten the president? Geitner should be arrested immediately.
whew. thank God! cool heads, steady hands! That's what we need!

This is BS. He'll be out by Wednesday.
Don’t forget that Tiny Timmy’s Daddy and Obama’s Mommy worked together.
Obama’s mother, Stanley A. Dunham, worked for Tim Giethner

Not so! Remember Friday they blamed "faulty analysis" by S&P.
Obviously that didn't poll as well as "TeaParty downgrade" so that's who they're holding accountable. MoveOn, David Axelrod, John Kerry said so.
I'm not really a quotes person but Reagan said it best when he compared government to a big baby: huge appetite at one end, no sense of responsibility at the other.
I've never seen a Democratic party this unwilling to accept responsibility for anything. All they do is hold back, attack Republican plans, show no cards and deflect blame.
I read that article too, and I can’t help but wonder if all those connections and assertions about CIA front organizations are for real.
Is it written anywhere else that the Students for a Democratic Society was created out of whole cloth by the CIA?
Bingo.
Yes, Timmy boy thought the street thought he had talent and going to pay him the big bucks. Now that it’s obvious even to him that his only talent is screwing up, he is not going to give up a job.
He is and always will be a politically appointed hack with no track record of expereince, achievement or abilities. Just like his boss.

Translation...... No one else will accept the job and his resignation was refused with threats of death
Aug 4 2006, WA Post editorial criticizes Pelosi for refusing to work on entitlement reform
Oct 6, 2006, AP reports on Pelosi's plans if she becomes speaker among them "Pay as you go," meaning no increasing the deficit, whether the issue is middle class tax relief, health care or some other priority..."
How's that compare to her record as Speaker even with a Democrat president?
You make a good point. I can’t imagine who would want to follow Geithner in Obama’s administration. Doesn’t seem like a good career move.

Great news for Quicken Tax.
Just damn...
He’ll be gone by the end of the week.
Heres Christina Romers take on the downgrade. Its pretty shocking because I didn’t think suzy sunshine would say s**T if she had a mouthful.
If anyone had any doubts about the depths of Timmy’s residue of intellect, they only need to watch him in *any* interview, on *any* network. Even on CNN, he sounds and looks like an ineffectual boob.
Obama might have wanted to oust Timmy, but when he called around, no one would take the job. Who the heck would want to be in that hot tub with Obama and the dirty crowd in his administration?
Timmy will not leave because he was doing exactly as he intends to do. Create chaos and centralize power in the hands of the financial sector.
Alinsky’s rules.
Crash the system. Obama and Timmy are cut from the same cloth, woven by the power elite that will tell us which candidates we want from each party, so that it is a choice between the two different heads of the same party.
The system is crashing, and the new system is ready to by put in place. The history books telling us of the adventurous American Spirit, of “go West young man” and the feeling of constant upward progress from generation to generation, is fading fast. Who among us believes the next generation will have it better than we have it?
Timmy and Barack indeed. After them, it will be more of the same.
