Recently there have been programs on PBS on the Freedom Riders with emphasis on the violent mobs that attacked them in Birmingham, Montgomery, etc. The so called civil rights establishment seems quite comfortable with the current racially motivated mobs. Ethnic mobs are completely evil and are particularly so in a society that is held together by a dries of creels and laws. The failure to aggressively confront this trend by the civil rights leadership and liberals in general represents more than just an ethical lapse it is a fundamental betrayal if what these folks claim is their core ethical belief system. Tacitly encouraging this behavior by ignoring it and saying nothing is more dangerous than these people seem to know. Racial identity violence directed at whites will eventually invoke a like response. All the talk about the US as being a credal society (whether one fully agrees with that proposition or not) will melt away before the basic call of blood and culture. The dragon slumbers in the cave of memory, liberals do not want to waken it and summon it forth. They don't appear to know what sort of social combustion they are playing with.

You are working on a false premise that it is more than just an ethical lapse it is a fundamental betrayal if what these folks claim is their core ethical belief system

Their core ethical belief is not civil rights or equality it is Socialism.

The whole point of the "Freedom Rides" was to provoke an angry reaction. The idea of wet eared College students, coming by bus into a community for the purpose of trying to change its social customs is inherently incendiary. The angry mobs, were the whole point of the exercise.

I recently wrote a response to an article previewing what you have apparently seen on PBS, which appeared a few months back in the student newspaper of my Alma Mater. I do not have the web address of the correspondence, handy.

Nothing about the "Civil Rights" Movement in the 1950s has been, or is likely to be, correctly represented on PBS. The objective was never improved relations between the races.
