WASHINGTON (AP) - Rep. Gabrielle Giffords returned to the House for the first time since she was shot last January, making a dramatic entrance Monday night during a crucial debt vote and drawing loud applause and cheers from surprised colleagues. As lawmakers stood on the floor, staring up at the vote board, Giffords slowly made her way through an entrance on the Democratic side of the chamber. Applause built and rolled like a wave through the House as lawmakers realized that their colleague had returned.

Tucson is also quite liberal. I lived there for a year.
She is a long, long way from recovered. Considering she had a bullet smash through her brain, she is doing well just to be alive but she’ll never be the same as before.
Me too. Without berating the obvious, she is an incredibly brave soul. God bless her.
” Tucson is also quite liberal. I lived there for a year.”
Only downtown areas are liberal. The U of Arizona is a horrible influence.
You got that right. I was on the bus and this college age kid was wearing t-shirt "CCCP". I wanted to tell him: "You would not be wearing that T-shirt in Miami."
Her husband's probably a democrat. They put party above ALL!
I don't agree with her on many issues, but I want to commend her on the work she has done on behalf of Pastor Yousef who is scheduled to be executed in Iran. She has been one of the most vocal leaders in Congress in trying to assure his release.
On the whole, I would much rather see a Conservative in her seat, but she does deserve credit for her stance and her diligence on this particular issue, and I respect her courage and determination in making it back to the job.
right you are
the left is angling for the az senate and they will use her.
the rat party is beyond is a vile mob.
her husband is a pig for letting his severely brain damaged wife being used like this ! unreal
I predict Biden will bow out in 2012 and Giffords will be 0bama’s running mate. I think she will be very handy to use for his future gun-grabbing agenda. He will also offer her the VP position to court the female vote. I hope I’m wrong, but when I saw her today, that was my first thought.
Jim’s wife.
Like how they rolled out Sen Byrd all the time for a last minute speech (in Marquee size letters) and vote....Did GOP ever do that?
You’re right, she barely won. She actually lost Election Day, but the early ballots that came in (people who had voted before Giffords agreed to have one lousy debate), pushed her over. After nearly a week or so of counting ballots.
From the time that I saw the video of Texas state reps voting for others when their back was turned, I really want to make sure WHO has cast a vote in any forum.
When I lived in NY, a state rep/senator was brought in from the hospital AFTER being diagnosed with TIA’s to cast a vote in the assembly.
I am not unsympathetic to her plight. I do believe anyone who has been seriously ill/ injured needs to be determined to be “fit for duty” - no matter the job.
The husband’s been front and center, angling for a new job after retiring from NASA. He released some extremely creepy photos of a white sheet and some other things very early on. He whisked her away when she shouldn’t have been in the air. He claimed that she’s the politician in the family -— until he decided that maybe he would consider running after all.
They never even lived together before the incident. Well, unless they did... in Houston, which means that the lies about her living in Tucson were just that... lies.
I had some of those same thoughts, how eerie. The problem for me, with that, is biblical predictions..scary. Zero may get desperate, if his approval ratings keep falling.
That overwhelming response to her ordeal could trigger a sympathy vote.
glad she's better....doubt if she is "normal" or even near it....one needs more than just thinking capabilities to be an effective congresscritter.....one needs to be able to speak clearly, debate, read, write.....
