Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin weighed in on the debt ceiling debate on social media just hours before a key House vote. (Twitter)
*snip*
In a post on her Facebook page from "proverbial politico flyover country," the former Alaska governor reprinted a letter she sent to newly elected members last fall, emphasizing the need to "rein in out-of-control government spending" and "check the growth of spending on our entitlement programs."
"I respectfully ask these GOP Freshman to re-read this letter and remember us 'little people' who believed in them, donated to their campaigns, spent hours tirelessly volunteering for them, and trusted them with our votes. This new wave of public servants may recall that they were sent to D.C. for such a time as this," Palin wrote.

. . . which won’t happen without the power to effect change. Principles are certainly important, but they require a little political savvy to become reality. I fear you underestimate the power of the Dems and Pravda to turn a Boehner loss into a political rout. It’s all about 2012.
I simply disagree.
I am very pleased to see so many who don’t agree with your point of view. You like to lay down and die.... others choose to fight. We need fighters, not capitulation. Prayers for the fighters and damn the eunuchs.
Yours is the fight that ends on November 6, 2012. Mine goes on way longer. It just has to start NOW!!!
Tell, why on God’s green earth would people vote for a party that does nothing but lie to them? We’ve been promised that they would make a stand. If they had no intention of doing so, then they should not have said they would. They have made no stands.
I don’t trust the GOP to fight tomorrow if they refuse to fight today. If you do, you are a fool. That’s not name calling, it’s a fact. They’ve already fooled us a dozen times over, if you’re willing to turn over control to them expecting something more, then you are a fool. I don’t know how else to put it, because it’s that simple. Now, stop with your party loyalty and stand on some principles instead of some partisan hackery that wants to put more Repubics into office, just because they have an R next to their name. Capitulation is what got us into the mess of an Obama Presidency.
What? The delay? Sure, I have. There may be a vote tomorrow. Who knows?
You left out more than a few people for the plan. Keep it honest, at least.
No, it is name-calling, and presumptuous. It is also a narrow view. One can be both principled and politically savvy. In fact, one must be. Good night.
Here’s what I would hold out for, if I was a House Republican right now:
1: Balanced Budget Amendment, with a no-wiggle-room glide path towards a cap of total taxation no more than 19% of GDP.
2: Immediate, across-the-board 10% reduction in spending authority from FY2011 levels in FY2012 for all non-Social Security and non-Medicare (i.e. non-FICA-tax-funded) Federal programs, without exception—yes, that includes defense. That’s an actual, real, live, no fudging 10% haircut for the entire Federal Government—ALL of it.
3: A 10-year (at least) absolute cap in dollar terms, without adjustment for inflation, in all non-FICA-tax-funded Federal programs after the 10% haircut.
4: Enact into law an automatic, annual 1% reduction in the debt limit (based on the amount of debt authorized for FY2012), which can be overridden only by 2/3 majority vote of both houses of Congress.
Give me those things, and I’ll do one and only one additional hike in the debt limit. I’d even listen to some reasonable tax increases—er—”revenue enhancements” if it meant that the structural changes above would get enacted.
Then, we can start talking about how to reform the “entitlement” programs to ensure their solvency . . .
I also left out a lot of people against. If we are going to list everyone for and against, I wouldn’t have posted it yet and I’d probably be up all night making sure the list was exhaustive enough.
I don’t underestimate them in the slightest.
I guess I should’ve added the obvious that, no matter WHAT they do, they will continue to be villified by the media, et al.
Those with courage and fortitude must be tough enough to withstand the onslaughts... which of course is very difficult, but so is this .. the mighty fight of our lifetime. God bless those righteous few with courage.
We’d never even BE here but for the freshmen .. everyone there before them would’ve already rolled over.
TERM LIMITS!
At one point, they controlled one-third of the government -- and had enormous momentum.
They've pissed all of that away now...
and he is certainly disgusted with the lack of will.
~~~~~
And he’s sure not alone.
If you think voting for a budget that doesn’t cut a penny on the dollar of the budget is “principled,” you’d have been cheering Chamberlain when he held up his agreement with Hitler and it called it “peace in our time.” I mean, you know, that’s the best deal he could have gotten! Otherwise, he might have, you know, actually had to have stood for something.
Kind of like Boehner with the debt ceiling. It’s just the best he can do. No, we can’t make any stands. The mushy moderates might not like that. Never mind they’ve all been deceived and supported a BBA and CCB in the beginning, no, the media will never let us do that. Never mind Facebook, Twitter, and FNC beat out the dinosaur media. We have to make sure what we do is acceptable to the three old timers who watch ABC. That’s the path to victory!
GOP Rinos...are eunuchs.
Sure as shootin’.
The talking point du jour is: you cant change things when you only control 1/2 of 1/3 of the govt. Thats everywhere.
///
exactly. and they ALL are so brilliant and prescient,
that they KNOW we can’t win in 2012, unless we let Boehner’s plan pass.
(even though it INCREASES the National Debt by TRILLIONS,
and even the CNN poll shows an amazing 70% of ALL Americans, want a balanced budget and the spending cut!
the opportunity, is NOW!)
but they want the Boehner plan. to “save us” in 2012.
...just as they KNEW we couldn’t win in 2008,
unless we had a “moderate” candidate,
to avoid scaring off the independents.
...and even though i’m new, and many of these “wise ones” have old FR dates, they are ALL names i’ve never seen before. (and i was reading a lot before i joined.)
but they all agree with Rove, and Boehner, and Romney.
but people like STARWISE, SoConPubbie, and MANY others,
who agree with Rush and Mark Levin (true conservatives),
those people i see all the time... (just an observation.)
and they are RIGHT. for example SoConPubbie is CORRECT:
” We lose with it, period! “
Obama and the Dems rejected Cut Cap and Balance.
we should do NOTHING but wait for THEM to come up with a plan, which as Roger L Simon (PJ Media) shows, will crumble THEIR base and destroy them!
If you think voting for a budget that doesnt cut a penny on the dollar of the budget is principled,
///
that’s funny... the guy on the other thread, arguing the SAME arguments, (as STARWISE points out), is named “Principled”. (joined 1998, just like MrChips.)
McCain was also once an American hero. but we don’t need strategy. we need principles. we need people to act now! we need people who understand, that running TRILLION dollar deficits, with a National Debt of 14 trillion, will destroy our country.
We need to cut NOW. And the majority of Americans agree with this.
HOLD THE LINE!!
They’ll have to come back to you. DEMAND a REAL CUT in spending!! Do not under any circumstance approve a debt ceiling increase!! Instead, insist on real spending cuts NOW!! The country is bankrupt. Do not allow them to take us deeper into debt! It’s time for the HOUSE to do its job of controlling the spending!
The federal government is bankrupt due to Obama’s reckless spending. Cut up his credit cards and force him to quit spending!
Elendur,
Let’s all remember that there are more of us than there are of the party loyalists. The party is so ticked, that I saw a poll a couple months ago that put support for a third party over 50%. Boehner is just begging to lose his job one way or another.
When the votes are tallied, let’s pray we come out on top in spite of all the pressure they are putting on us. This is the time to hold the line and demand serious cuts. It’s not for purity. It’s for the future of our party, the conservative movement, and, most of all, the country. I just hope that if we fail, this is not our last shot.
