Texas Gov. Rick Perry is all but certain to launch a presidential campaign and is nearing an announcement set for the second half of August, according to sources familiar with his political team's planning.
For months, Republican activists, donors, elected officials, and even voters have dithered about their choices in the 2012 presidential primary contest.
But they may have their man in Rick Perry, a telegenic and booming political presence who boasts executive experience as the nation's longest serving governor, as well as a healthy level of support from the tea party faithful.
Two new national polls released on Friday showed Perry in a statistical tie for first place with the front-running Romney.

AND he can beat Obama.
What's not to like?
Perry is Romney’s Trojan Horse.

Rove for Romney. Rove for Perry.
NO MORE RINOs.
I don't think Perry is that oblivious to what Sarah will do to EVERY pubbies campaign.
First, the Texas governorship has limited actual authority.
Most of the governors power rests in appointments. Very little power rests in influencing legislation, except via veto or by the selection of which items to include in a special session of the legislature.
Most actual power rests with the lieutenant governor. Therefore many of the accomplishments credited to Perry (or formerly credited to Bush, when he was governor) are actually largely attributable to others.
Secondly, Perry has always seemed to be more about Perry, than he has been about actually doing things for the good of the state.
Thirdly, Perry has very little international expertise or experience. Of course that is true of most of the candidates, and is certainly true of the current president. That alone would not rule out Perry, in my mind.
Michele Bachman seems a more sound candidate, although admittedly she is not nearly as well understood here in Texas as is Perry.
Having said all of that, I certainly would support Perry, if he were to become the nominee, as an alternative to four more years of Obama.
“What’s not to like?”
He’s another RINO. I don’t like that.
Self delusion on display.
What you aren’t going to say Britt Hume is for Romney too? You may be the most ignorant Freeper ever.
Palin 1
Perry 0
Nothing the race needs more than two Romneys. LOL
I can’t see the great masses of the East and West coasts and the Great Lakes giving more 6than 25 percent of their votes to Perry. Is there a way to win elsewhere?
LLS
I won’t. We’re overrun with illegals even here in Michigan.
America can’t afford another open borders RINO no matter how desperately his supporters try to distract us from Perry’s weakest points.
If there are 30 million illegals in America and there are a bit more than 600,000 people per congressional district, it translates to the potential shifting of 50 house seats to democrat.
I see you disagree with Sarah Palin — I thought you are one of her big supporters.

“That’s why I am supporting Governor Rick Perry for re-election. He does what is right regardless of whether it is popular. He walks the walk of a true conservative. And he sticks to his guns - and you know how I feel about guns!
With our current economic crisis, and working families worried about their pensions, jobs, credit card debt and rising home foreclosures, we need strong conservative leadership in trend-setting states like Texas.”
I see you were too dumb to read the agreement about personal attacks.
He’s lining up his financial backing and ground troops.
He plans to hit the ground running with a national campaign.
imho
Perry WILL NOT enter the race until he knows what Palin is going to do. He will not run heads up against Palin. That would be work.
“Perry WILL NOT enter the race until he knows what Palin is going to do. He will not run heads up against Palin.”
They are friends and I am sure they do discuss this among themselves. My personal guess is that they DID discuss this, and agreed that Perry will run and Palin will support him.
She is young, maybe she can get a significant position in the next, hopefully Perry administration, then with those additional credentials she can run in another 8 years from a stronger position.
Right now she would not be able to beat Obama.
“Perry is Romneys Trojan Horse.”
Do you mean Stalking Horse?
Yes, we all understand, the all hat and no cattle Perry, please keep and enjoy him, that way he and MR Fox can still claim to be neighbors.
