With the opening of Asian markets now hours away and talks between Congressional leaders at a stand-still, ABC News has learned of a new high-stakes turn in the debt ceiling drama.
I am told that Speaker Boehner and President Obama are once again having back-channel talks on a large-scale deficit reduction plan that would include cuts to entitlement programs and increases in tax revenues.
Boehner Obama are again negotiating a "grand bargain" address the debt crisis with deep spending cuts. Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner just confirmed this in his pre-taped interview on "This Week."

It now looks like the original framework is back in play a deal with some $3 trillion in spending cuts and $800 billion in additional tax revenue.
One source described the talks as Boehner and the President footsie because the talks are indirect...

I am told that Eric Cantor, Kevin McCarthy and Jeb Hensarling (the 2, 3, and 4 GOP leaders in the House) have all made it clear to Boehner they will not accept a deal that increases tax revenues by $800 billion.
If Boehner strikes such a deal with the President, he could lose more than 100 Republican votes in the House. It could ultimately cost him his Speakership. But it may be the only possible way to both avoid default and address the underlying debt crisis.

Anyone that would even consider raising taxes in this environment is either insane, inane, or just plain vain. Or just outright cruel. Or a tyrant. Or a control freak. Or a Democrat.
We should all pray for Beohner, because the Dems are thugs. They probably have him up against the wall with no sleep, and a bright light in his eyes. Pistol whipping him. Rhetorically speaking of course. However. He should still not, no never, even discuss much less sign, and expect his caucus to enact, anything with any new revenues from new or increased taxes. Do I really need to say this? If you want more revenues, do things that cause the environment be one that allows the economy to grow and expand. Taking more out of the economy in the form of taxation constricts the economy.
I feel for Beohner and anyone with less than steel for spines when mixing it up with these tyrannical thugs, but if he in any way caves, he has to go. Let Cantor step up. If he cant do it, let the next guy do it. This is Fort Sumter guys. The Democrats, just like then are an armed force bent destroying the country, and they are firing on the Republicans, (the anti-slavery party, then and now), from all sides.
1. King Obama will need to either seek asylum in Kenya, or institute marshal law.
2. After our Indonesian Prince in DC openly declares war on the American People, the reasons for the Second Amendment will become abundantly clear, even to Liberals.
Get the dust off the ammo and oil the the steel.
I think Boehner knows this, and is being forced to do the will of the people.
But is he leading?
Trillions in more spending, white house promises to buy one less role of toilet paper next year, said they would steal one from congress to make up the drastic cuts.
You are damn straight we have too many immature, knee jerk reactionary hand wringers who post without doing research or analysis of what is being disseminated on the web. It is my experience that 60% or greater of what has been posted in the last 2 1/2 years is false or conjecture.
You need to calm down.
The Bush rates AND the Social Security 2% cut are already due to expire. There is no change happening to that date. Are you going to demand no change to the reduced SS level too?
I am not confident that is what the 800B is, regardless. The expiration of both of those would add to far more than 800B over 10 years. Also, it would be substantially economically contractive and I would think Obama will not want that in 2012.
Patience.
would have to have been raised as a communist in a foreign country, have Islamic roots and a deep hatred for America and freedom.
Yep, I think you've nailed it. Boehner is a go along to get along kind of guy - collegial I think is the word most used to describe his disposition. But, sadly for Boehner and McConnell for that matter, their time has passed. We have serious problems that require people who are willing to make tough and pragmatic decisions. I am glad that the Young Turks aka Tea Party members are holding his butt to the fire. And, if he does go wobbly I think he will indeed loss his speaker-ship and deservedly so....
Amen and Amen.
This is so well put , I had to post it again!!! THANK YOU!
This is the correct approach, reveal to America who the Statist Beast truly is:

West is the MAN:
” Boehner should REFUSE to deal with the administration. He would be hailed as a hero.”
Folks, we have a W I N N E R !
“Boehner should tread lightly here. Not only will this cost him his speakership, he will lose his job as well.”
Boehner is a creature of Washington; his instincts are to make a political deal instead of standing on principle. Agree with your assessment.
There’s too much frumping here on taxes. That’s important — don’t get me wrong — but the critical element is the spending cuts. The cuts have to be big. They have to real. And they have to be permanent, which means they have to structurally change entitlements.
Sooooo, WHAT did he say??? It would help if you would enlighten us.
Watching Boehner this morning on FNC does not leave me confident in the outcome.
Boehner has told Obama that he would let the Bush Tax Cuts expire for higher income families and individuals but extend them for others.
That is a TAX HIKE since these families will be PAYING MORE TAXES under the Obama-Boehner deal.
Why are you so strongly supporting the Obama-Boehner $800 Billion tax hike?
Will he loseb his job? As long as each DC Fat Cat brings home the pork, they’ll get re-elected. Does Juan McLame reflect the local sentiment in AZ, or did they re-elect him because of all his seniority? The ‘Rats take advantage of this to the hilt, that’s why so many run virtually unopposed.
Eliminating the home mortgage interest deduction is an assault on homeowners, and Boehner is still leaving it out there as an option.
You left out one factor: THE CUTS HAVE TO BE IMMEDIATE.None of this 10 years later crap.
Boehner will go down in infamy if he agrees to raise taxes. Someone needs to kick his ass BEFORE he agrees to raising taxes in any way, shape or form.
