Congressional leaders planned to work on a fiercely hot Sunday in Washington to try to reach a bipartisan accord to avert a debt-ceiling crisis on Aug. 2.
Aides will be darting in and out of meetings in the usually empty Capitol. Top leaders of the House and Senate will be conferring as well. House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, said he wants to announce the outlines of a plan by 4 p.m. EDT Sunday, to assure investors of the nation's financial and political stability before Asian stock markets open Monday.

The only plan required is for Boehner et al. to pass a bill requiring that the Government service debt first out of incoming receipts. Then, don’t raise the debt limit.
Anything else is, once again, failure to address the problem of overspending and kicking the can down the road.
The fierceness of the heat being almost beyond endurance when one is trapped in an air-conditioned temple of the state.

Setting this up to BE a crisis so we accept ANYTHING to avert a crisis. We’re being played again !
Again, you are wrong.
Boehner will raise the debt limit in the bill, but that was always true. In the cut, cap and balance bill, the debt limit was raised. But the Senate did not want to cut, cap and balance, so it failed there. And Obama already had said he would veto it, for the same reason. He didn’t want to cut, cap and balance.
But if you expect the Boehner plan to raise taxes or to not cut, there you are as wrong as every other prediction you have made.
The Boehner plan has to pass the House, so whatever it has in there will have to be acceptable to the GOP House.
I say just re-enter CCB again....let the public know that Harry would not let it come to the floor the first time and give the phone # of all Democrat Senators.......
Tarp, stimulus, now the debt ceiling. Just another made up manufactured “crises” so the socialists can continue their spendthrift ways. Fear is our great undoing here. The establishment plays us like a fiddle.
Except you are forgetting the GOP House will not go along with just anything just because this is billed as a crisis.
It isn’t perfect. But it has proven out that the recent House election provided a decent backstop to the Senate and to Obama.
Yep. Send it back to the Senate Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, forever, until they debate and vote on it. If the House isn't allowed to send the exact same bill, change one word and pass it again.
Just think, John Boohoo - a moment of weakness, a lifetime of misery...
Duh, does capitulate and caves, mean the same thing. Run up the French flag, has boners picture on it.
Others on this thread are demanding that the debt ceiling not be raised. That would be fine with me, but in a bill that does the necessary other things, I could live with it being raised.
So, since the two of you are advocating cut, cap and balance, I guess you are on record for accepting the debt ceiling increase, because cut, cap and balance raised the debt ceiling, along with the good things it did.
Very reluctantly, but I think CCB's the best deal we can get. I hope it's the best deal the Democrats can get, and that they realize it and sign on.
Grab keyboard, childishly insult Boehner. Rinse. Repeat. Grab keyboard, childishly insult Boehner. Rinse. Repeat... Be sure to offer no substance whatsover. Childishly insult, only. Rinse. Repeat.
That about covers it.
Hey, Bone-Er: "Here's your sign!"
Thanks.
Reluctance is the right word.
But we differ with a number of folks who consider it selling out that Boehner lives and breathes air, much less that Boehner would pass a bill that raised the debt limit.......no matter what else good is in that bill.
