The Democratic-controlled Senate on Friday narrowly voted to block a Republican measure that would force Congress to pass a stringent balanced budget amendment and cap spending before increasing the debt ceiling.
The legislation, a conservative priority, never had a chance of passing, but the strictly partisan 51-46 vote to table the Cut, Cap and Balance bill highlighted the partisan divide in Washington over how to tackle spending and raise the nations $14.3 trillion debt limit.

Now, every single Talk Radio Host, Commentator and Media personality on the Right needs to hang this disastrous error by Harry Reid around the Democrats neck.
The House did their job, the Senate threw a temper-tantrum and refused to do their job. Now the burden of fixing this debt issue lays wholly on Obama, Harry Reid and the Democrats.
Don’t like our Debt plan? Fine, where is your plan Democrats?
You are a genius! That is EXACTLY what the House should do.
1000%- they should have been doing this all along to remind people about the failed stimuloss, the lies of obozocare and the fact harry reid, who sits on his ass and berates the ideas of others, was the leader of a senate that did not even produce a budget for more than two years...
OK, now every republican should repeat, on every interview they give: 3 democrat senate votes is all that kept us from increasing the debt ceiling.
3 democrat senate votes are responsible for whatever happens on August 2nd.
3 democrat senate votes who thought ideological purity was more important than solving the debt problem.
3 democrat senate votes. The democrats are responsible for not raising the debt ceiling. They voted against raising it in 2006, and they voted against solving it now.
The talks in D.C. are not even DISCUSSING this growing cancer on our financial future. So long as we permit the Great Society's reach to extend further, and the illegal alien/anchor baby disaster to grow, there is no hope whatsoever for our future.
So, where is the fool that told me I was wrong, that there was going to be an actual vote on this. BS, they did just what I posted, vote to cut off debate and then table. Nothing more than a republican show and tell before the cave in.
The socialist-democrats have no interests in basic fundamental governing matters such as passing a budget. All they want to do is RULE! The only thing they will understand is pitchforks, tar, and feathers. The first thing on the budget cut list should be to eliminate ALL elected officials pension and healthcare benefits. Politicians don’t deserve either. Then maybe the SOB’s wouldn’t try to make it a permanent career.
Fine. The House should now reject anything coming out of the Senate. They need to have a press conference today. Announce that they passed a bill to raise the debt ceiling but the Senate tabled it. Too bad. Our job is done. See you after Labor Day
For weeks, the dominant storyline in the ongoing (and ongoing and ongoing) debt limit negotiations has been the fissure between establishment Republicans and the tea party wing of the GOP.
That all changed Thursday when reports began to surface that a deal that would include $3 trillion in spending cuts including to entitlement programs was being hashed out by the White House and House Republicans.
Congressional Democrats as expertly detailed by the Posts Paul Kane reacted angrily to the idea, insisting that such a deal would amount to declaring defeat (politically and otherwise) when victory was in sight.
What the episode proves for the billionth time in the history of politics is that whats good for the goose (Obama) is not always good for the gander (congressional Democrats).

Debt talks bring tensions between Democrats, Obama to surface
Just as Senate Democrats were sitting down Thursday to a scheduled meeting with White House budget director Jacob J. Lew, rumors of a new debt-limit deal between President Obama and House Speaker John A. Boehner (R-Ohio) flashed across their BlackBerrys.
One after another, Sens. John F. Kerry (Mass.), Barbara A. Mikulski (Md.), Maria Cantwell (Wash.) and others demanded that Lew explain what the president was doing.
I actually like the Krauthammer plan, and wish the house republicans would play that card.
If the democrats won’t solve the whole problem, then let’s feed them small doses, so it keeps coming back.
Instead of raising the ceiling 2.5 trillion, raise it .5 trillion. And enact the 500 billion in immediate spending cuts called for by the “gang of 6”.
We still will have leverage in 5 months, and maybe we can send the message that the debt “ceiling” only has meaning if you can’t just raise it whenever you hit it.
We should force the democrats to vote on raising the debt ceiling it least 3 times before the 2012 election, and each time the fight should be over why we aren’t cutting spending so we stop hitting the debt ceiling.
Boehner needs to bring up a bill today that says interest on the debt, Social Security, Medicare, and military pay and benefits shall be paid in full from current income and if there is any money left over other expenditures shall be funded proportionateley. Pass it today and send it to the Senate this afternoon.
Let the Democrats vote against paying Social Security and Medicare if they dare.
The House should delete one word, vote, and submit it again.
Everything is free now. Obama’s stash. Why shouldn’t the state insurance card pay for food? Why have all of these different cards?
Do I need a sarcasm tag?
The House has done its part with Cut, Cap, and Balance, which the majority of the American people want. Reid wont even bring it up in the Senate because he thinks Boehner will cave in the talks with Obama. Boehner needs to walk away from the talks and tell Obama and Dingy Harry its their turn. They have done nothing and dont want a balanced budget. When will Boehner realize you cant deal with Democrats? They will stab you in the back every time.
The “ScrewEmAndHow” Deal is next up.
Hope and PRAY the GOP hangs tough.
No increase in the debt limit to cover additional liabilities, no tax increases, cut and cap!!!!
NOW the GOP has to GET OUT THERE and LET THE AVERAGE Schlemiel in the street know WHY they did this.
They need pictures. Considering the I.Q. of the average voter, they might have to use crayons for the pictures.
Giving Democrats tax dollars is like giving cocaine to an addict.
Mitch McConnell & John Boehner should inform POTUS Obama today that the defeat of CCB in the Senate this morning, places total responsibility for the debt ceiling remedy squarely in the hands of both the POTUS and the Democrat Senators!!! Pubbies, do not give them an inch!!! Not one!!! Unless it is on “our” terms!!!
