Mostly 2 lanes each direction with a lot of long hills and truck traffic.
Trucks will pull out sharply into the left lane on the uphils and take 2 or 3 miles to pass. Left lane traffic almost has to tailgate to make sure they don't have a truck pull out on them.
The scenery is beautiful but the driving is stressful.
The problem on 81 is trucks, I reckon there’s not much you can do about it. Some trucks go the speed limit or over, some go 5-10 miles under. Some slow down and speed up going up and down grades, some don’t. I know some companies have computers that track the speed on their trucks so drivers go the speed they want them to, for insurance purposes I guess. One truck going slightly faster than another truck takes a long time to pass, especially on even gentle up hill grades. Also many passenger vehicles just stay in passing lane because of the slower moving trucks, which causes its own problems. I would love to know if the volume of truck traffic on 81 is more or less for a 4 lane highway on average. That said, the idiots are almost always in passenger vehicles, not trucks.

Just a word of advice: Don’t cruise at 92 on I70 in Colorado.
A few years ago, there was a blanket 70mph pretty much over
all the rural areas of state highways. Many of those have been reduced since then to a more logical 60mph. I think due to the long time period at 55mph - many (newer) officials didn’t realize that not all highways are for 70mph.
That stretch 81 between 66 and Woodstock scares the crap out of me. Granted, I only visit once a year so maybe you get used to the volume of trucks at some point. But it just seems like wall to wall trucks and two lanes in each direction is dangerous enough at 65mph.
My car is a “tool” that provides me the opportunity to move from one spot to another.
If you don’t how to use your tools correctly, please do not use them until you are competent.
Yes - it should have been 80.
The interstates were designed for 75mph speeds with 50s era cars. no way is 70 or 80 dangerous on most of the Interstates. The main problem, at least out west, is that Americans refuse to use the left lane for passing only. When traffic gets a bit heavy the arrogant @sses remain in the passing lane doing under 65 like they are self appointed traffic wardens or something.
Liberals hate efficient highways and privately owned vehicles. First, they hate private ownership of cars, truck, Harleys and guns in general. Second, they want everyone in busses and trains to save energy for mother earth’s sake.
