Are you aware of the National Day of Prayer and National Prayer Breakfast?

“The National Day of Prayer (36 U.S.C. § 119)[1] is an annual day of observance held on the first Thursday of May, designated by the United States Congress, when people are asked “to turn to God in prayer and meditation”. Each year, the president signs a proclamation, encouraging all Americans to pray on this day.[2] The modern law formalizing its annual observance was enacted in 1952, although it has historical origins to a mandate by George Washington, the first president of the United States.[3][4]

The Honorable Congress having recommended it to the United States to set apart Thursday the 6th of May next to be observed as a day of fasting, humiliation and prayer, to acknowledge the gracious interpositions of Providence; to deprecate [to pray or intreat that a present evil may be removed] deserved punishment for our Sins and Ingratitiude, to unitedly implore the Protection of Heaven; Success to our Arms and the Arms of our Ally: The Commander in Chief enjoins a religious observance of said day and directs the Chaplains to prepare discourses proper for the occasion; strictly forbidding all recreations and unnecessary labor.” —George Washington, First President of the United States[10][11][5]”

“The National Prayer Breakfast is a yearly event held in Washington, D.C., on the first Thursday of February each year. The founder of this event was Abraham Vereide.[1] The event—which is actually a series of meetings, luncheons, and dinners—has taken place since 1953 and has been held at least since the 1980s at the Washington Hilton on Connecticut Avenue N.W.

The breakfast, held in the Hilton’s International Ballroom, is attended by some 3,500 guests, including international invitees from over 100 countries. The National Prayer Breakfast is hosted by members of the United States Congress and is organized on their behalf by The Fellowship Foundation, a conservative Christian organization more widely known as “The Family.” Initially called the Presidential Prayer Breakfast, the name was changed in 1970 to the National Prayer Breakfast.”

I am very much aware of these functions. I am also aware that our Lord preached against those who made a show of their righteousness, and that He taught us to prey in secret.

It's too bad that so many are not aware that most politicians are sociopaths and display "sociopathic charm." They are like used-car salesmen, and will tell you what you want to hear. I look not for outward displays of piety, but for evidence of correct choice when no one is looking and no credit is given. When left to his own devices, this so-called conservative Rick Perry supported Rudolf Giuliani, who is so far left that the label Republican becomes an outright joke.

Sarah Palin, Michelle Bachmann, and Herman Cain have lived out the conservative Christian credo all their lives.
