MILLER: Atheists unbless Texas

Godless group sues Rick Perry over prayer day event

Emily Miller

July 15,2011

Atheists don’t want Texas Gov. Rick Perry to have a prayer day this summer. On Wednesday, the Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF) asked a federal judge to block “The Response,” an event where Christians would gather in Houston to turn to God for direction and unity for an aggrieved nation.

The anti-God brigade insists this is a First Amendment violation, and it will also seek a restraining order to bar Mr. Perry’s participation.

FFRF president Annie Laurie Gaylor says the suit is warranted because Mr. Perry does not see a distinction between his personal beliefs and his duty and obligations as the state’s chief executive. “He has taken an oath of office to uphold a completely secular and godless Constitution where there is no religion in it - much less Jesus, much less days of prayer and fasting,” she told The Washington Times in an interview. “It’s way over the top.”

Eric Bearse, a spokesman for organizers of “The Response,” explained that the event is not sponsored by the state. “Hundreds of years of legal precedent make clear Americans can assemble and pray without interference from the government,”...

...Snip...

The Founding Fathers embraced their faith and would not be bothered by a day of prayer. So it’s good Mr. Perry is not backing down. “The pending litigation does not affect plans for the prayer event to move forward as planned,” his office said in a written statement. Considering where our country has been heading the past few years, we need all the prayer we can get...

Second, Rove’s opponents would regularly find that they had suddenly become the target
of a criminal investigation, and details concerning the investigation would be
aggressively fanned to the press. Rove mastered this technique in a contest
for the Texas Agriculture Commissioner’s post that he managed for now-Governor Rick Perry.

It Started in Texas: Karl Rove’s Political Prosecutions

1. Rove was hired to run the campaign of Rick Perry, the current governor,
for the powerful Texas office of Commissioner of Agriculture, then held by
Democrat Jim Hightower. Shortly thereafter, it was clear that a major
FBI investigation had been launched into the workings of the Texas Agriculture
Department (TDA), focusing on Hightower and his senior lieutenants, who had been
pursuing a populist, anti-corporate agriculture and pro-small-farmer agenda.

Karl Rove says he and consultant David Weeks persuaded Rick Perry to switch parties and run for state agriculture commissioner

Texas Gov. Rick Perry draws mention in GOP consultant Karl Rove’s autobiography with attention
focused on Perry’s win for lieutenant governor in 1998 and Rove’s role in his pivotal earlier
switch from the Democratic to Republican party while he was a third-term member of the Texas House.

Rove writes: “Rick Perry had planned to retire from the legislature until his best friend,
David Weeks, and I talked him into switching parties and running for the GOP nomination for
agriculture commissioner.” His book, “Courage and Consequence, My Life as a Conservative
in the Fight,” was published March 9.

Hahaha, how can you unbless something without believing
it’s blessed in the first place? Silly atheists forget
God has a sense of humor.

Yes, G-d has a sense of humor. Like when each one of these anti-theists (the real term) finds himself standing before the Throne of Heaven and hears the Almighty roar

“So, you’re the one who called me SKYDADDY, eh!!?”

;^)

I stand by what I said, FRiend.

The correct term for that is "unrepentance."

In the meantime, show me the charitable works all over the world, for centuries, created and maintained by atheists out of gratitude to the Cosmos that we are all the product of chance, doomed to be an inconsequential flash in the pan due to the Laws of Thermodynamics.

And I won’t call you a cretin.

As far as cretin goes, recall Psalm 14:1, "The fool says in his heart, 'There is no God.' "

I know, it's tough being Prometheus.

It's even harder when you have to provide your own vulture.

Cheers!

How can you possibly know that God doesn´t exist? Even believers have to count on their faith. But you can´t even have faith that you´re an atheist. Seems like an awfully lonely road.

Really? You noticed...?

Remember that the next time a Christianist complains about insufferable atheists.

Sometimes the believers aren't in despair over having their limited world-view (bitter clingers) challenged by their intellectual superiors.

Sometimes atheists troll and then have the nerve to complain that people don't like it.

Yeah, I used to be an atheist: I remember one time I turned on the TV to find an eagerly awaited show, only to find a religious broadcast...I let out a LOT of bad language about these crazy religious nuts monopolizing everything, until I noticed I had misread the TV guide.

That got me to thinking about how spring-loaded my rejection of religion was--and whether I was really as "open-minded" as I'd always thought.

Cheers!

My problem is believing that something came from nothing, as in the Big Bang. Something had to be the Initiator, at least in the rules of this universe.

So, Rove is anti-Perry, now?

Please, continue to troll if you can’t do any better than this illogical, completely gratuitous effort in post 27.

I to know that you can’t get some thing from nothing. The big bang to me does not explain this. So some thing had to start every thing in motion.

If you want to call that god. Have at it. Atheist really does not describe me. But it serves. The bible in my opinion and its only an opinion is a fairy tale. Its absurd on its face. But Christianity is a worthy and wonderful way to live your life.

But if you ask me if I think some guy the Romans nailed to a stick 2000 years ago is going to appear in the sky one day...
Well I would say if that gives you comfort then it serves its purpose.

Best rant I ever read.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

No law has been passed by Congress, or any other governing body. There is no violation.

We are insane if we don’t reclaim our right to the freedom of religion—as a start!

The left seems to have reading comprehension difficulties. That isn't and should not be our problem.

Very interesting....

So let me get this straight... while Hightower & Co. were pursuing a more or less conservative agenda for the agricultural sector of the State of Texas, Rove basically destroyed their character so he could “place” Rick “The RINO” Perry in a position of great power.

To add insult to injury, he writes a book some years later titled “Courage and Consequence, My Life as a Conservative”

The irony abounds as it appears that Rove is surely not a FRiend of the conservative agenda, therefore he must be the enemy.

And the plot thickens....
