President Obama has more than a few congressional GOPers shaking in their boots with his threat to not pay Social Security checks after August 2 if Republicans don't cave in to his demand that they support tax increases and hiking the national debt limit.
It's a variation of the familiar Democratic tactic that has worked so often in the past. But here's how Republicans can snatch the Social Security weapon right out of Obama's hands: Congress has all of the ultimate weapons in any showdown with the president or the federal judiciary, thanks to its status as the First Branch and the one that controls the federal purse strings.
So when Obama threatens not to pay Social Security checks on time, the proper response of congressional Republicans should be to pass emergency legislation directing the Secretary of the Treasury to pay interest on the national debt, Social Security and Medicare, active-duty members of the military and...

Most of the DC elites, including the RINO’s are the ones who created this crisis.
Why would either party want to solve it? It’s not about protecting this great country.
It’s about the power.

RT @zerohedge: OBAMA: “THIS MAY BRING MY PRESIDENCY DOWN BUT I WILL NOT YIELD ON THIS” — REPUBLICAN AIDE
Gee... I wonder why Obama didn’t mention a potential problem with paying 44.5 million people their average $282 in food stamps next month. How about Section 8 housing? How about the various “food for kids” programs? How about Welfare checks... or free cellphones... or energy “assistance”...etc.
I wonder why SS was the only thing he mentioned....hmmm.
And why was it timed to be at the same time McConnell did his belly flop?

When, oh when will the Republicans fight all of the lies that this admins. and the lying Dems put out everyday!! This is so the way to “stick them with the truth”!! They can NOT count on the media to call out the lies of the libs.
How can obama choose not to pay s/s? We pay the money in not by choice but under the promise that it would be saved for us - and supposedly there is a surplus now.
Is he admitting that the money has been stolen by our politicians???
It is quite telling when you have to clarify to the Congress how to use the Constitution and government balance of powers to direct us on a conservative path. It tells quite lucidly of the massive contrived political propaganda and sinister manipulations of the Media and the politicians Democrats and Republicans) who bend over for it, FOR YEARS.
The US federal government, in concert with the centrally controlled Media and a feckless population, have constructed the phoniest dependent society on Earth. It could have been all different, if just some courageous leaders had revealed what is going on. I had hopes once for GWB, but, as an establishment patrician, he failed. Now we have the most arrogant, self-consumed, and destructive, President that we have ever had. That by virtue of a ruthless (and savvy) global conspiracy, and a truly stupid electorate.
As Roddenberry of Star Trek declared over and over, there are only two paths in sentient life, that of authoritarian mindless dependence, or that of human dignity where one lives one's own decisions and moral consciousness.
Thank you for the clarification, but tragically there is no way that political careerists are going to put at risk their goodies for the constituency's long term stability. It happened in Rome too.

I wish there was some way to ask your question to Baraq, Pelosi, and Reid on national tv.
I’d LOVE to hear the response.
I’m tempted to email AARP and ask them too. They seem to be the only ones outside the political elite who always tell us about how solid the “trust fund” is.
SS is automatically deposited in the account of your choice in what appears by staggering Wednesdays, 1st Wed, 2nd Wed, 3rd Web, etc.
Maybe Obama himself doesn't understnd how it works, and unless there's a STOP PAY (there is probably some mechanism to inactive the interlocking programs that control the whole process) button, no way to easily stop auto deposits.
Sounds so much more theatrical when you threaten with colorful checks. Like he should be saying, seniors may have their auto deposited social security suspended starting Aug 3 (first Wed). AND those still receiving payments via checks may not be receiving them.
I think Bloomberg News released a proposed list of what should get funded first in order of priority. Did anyone see that?
The problem is finding someone in the GOP who has the tenacity to cut Zero off at the knees. I don't see any takers of the challenge currently on the stage.
As the rule states, "NO GUTS, NO GLORY".
Obammy keeps talking about self destruction. He’s knows himself even while he’s hidden himself from the public.
Great!
Now if Boehner was as “courageous” as some are saying, he’d do this tomorrow morning!
Don’t trust AARP.
