Polls show there's an anti-Mormon bias among voters - especially Democrats, more than a quarter of whom say they wouldn't vote for a Mormon. But this video of a Memphis Fox affiliate ridiculing Mitt Romney about his religion is a real wake-up call [video]. The whole news segment appears to be about Mormonism and the 2012 election, but skip ahead to the 3:20 mark for the worst of it [video].

Yes, but I do not want to attack the Mormon religion when we all should stand united against the much greater evil of Islam. We will have a chance to convert Mormons later after the War against Islam is decided. I can’t see Uncle Mitt stepping forward to lead that fight.
Growing up as a Southern Baptist I was told that Jesus was building a mansion for me.
Should have held out for a whole planet.
Right, Mormonism.
Challenging Mormonism is a task that all of us are obligated to do, Catholics included.
I think you guys are spot on. I disagee with Romney’s political position and think he’s an opportunist. But the whole point is that his personal faith is irrelevant.
I don't see the sense in that statement, what is the connection, and how would you stop discussions of Bishop Mitt Romney's religion and Mormonism in general here at FR, just the politics alone make it a necessary topic.
Since I cannot get within 2 feet of Romney, how am I to tell him the truth and would he believe me if I did. One must be ready to accept the truth and I don’t believe he is.
I have spoken to many people about the Lord. I do so everyday on my job even though I can be fired for it. I have run into pure evil on my job and faced it with prayer. I have had customers scream at me and hurl insults, try to get me fired, and I apologize to THEM for anything I may have done wrong, and that brings shame to their faces and an apology when they see the cross around my neck. Jesus was humble and forgave, who am I to be different. I live my love of the Lord everyday without shame. The people I work with see this and ask questions on how I can endure. I tell them I love the Lord and follow his footsteps.
I am not being self-righteous, just honest. If I could personally reach Romney I would.
Great picture! I never thought I’d agree with Al but even a stopped clock is right twice a day.
Exactly, but if Reid were a conservative he’d be crucified by the MSM and liberals.
Ansel, please tell me how to challenge Mormonism on this thread. Please tell me how posting on Free Republic is going to change anything. I will challenge Romney by not voting for him...period.
I think you may be right. In the few years prior to the Civil War we had congressmen carrying loaded weapons into the chamber, challenging each other to duels, and Senator Charles Sumner of Massachusetts nearly beaten to death by Preston Brooks of South Carolina right on the Senate floor. Maybe in a different way we’re approaching that level of division and hatred.

So you don't think Islamism is a greater evil than Mormanism? How many Morman suicide bombers have you ever heard of? My point was that at some point we may pray to have Mormons shoulder-to-shoulder with us on the front-lines against Islam.
If you read what I have posted here, you will see I am not against denouncing Romney politically and spiritually, I just don't think that pressing the issue to harshly on this forum serves any good at all. It will not convert, but only alienate.
The first answer is that you don't try to tell people that Mormonism is off limits, the answer to the second question is that discussing it here at FR reverberates to the greater population and spreads knowledge and creates Christian activism, it even results in Mormons converting to Christianity, which has happened right here at freerepublic.
Theodore Dalrymple wrote that when you live in a society where “anything goes” - eventually everything does.
None of that made sense either, you can only talk about one thing at a time, can we ever spare a few minutes to discuss Scientology, or the Hare Krishnas? Do you think that Mormons might become allies of Islam, or refuse military service, if we don't roll over?
I won’t call you a fool and I’m thinking that my use of that word was a bit strong.
I am pleased to read that you are happy with your conversion.
I haven’t and will not study Mormonism, mostly because I don’t care about it. There are a couple of Freeper mormon’s on FR that I know of and it is my long standing impression that they are very conservative and nice folks.
From reading some of the other posts on this thread, it seems that I have inadvertently turned this thread into a religion thread. I flat can’t stand religious threads, I do not go on religion threads and I refuse to debate with anyone about religion.
I know Jesus and I talk to God every day of my life and have done so since I was a child.
Anyway, be happy with your convictions and I’ll continue to hold my position that I don’t give a hoot about Romney’s religion, I just don’t like him because of many of his previously taken stands, such as pro-abortion, 2nd A, Romneycare and on and on. I don’t like this RINO or any other RINO.
Cheers and end of discussion....
I think a lot of anti-Mormon bigotry is just based on ignorance. The things that originally made the LDS church persecuted and hated, such as polygamy, were officiallly repudiated by the Mormons a century ago. From the point of view of orthodox Christianity Mormonism may indeed be a cult. But so what? It’s now a harmless cult and Mormons have been a productive and successful part of our political and economic culture.
Civility and common decency are no longer even a pretense in this age when commentary and opinion and 30 second sound bites are presented as “news.” When people like Tina Turner of Newsweek and Matthews and Maddow of MSNBC routinely call mainstream political opponents “terrorists,” and “fascists,” we’ve reached the point where these bottom feeders have made any type of rational political dialogue impossible.
Do you know anything about the LDS? They are probably the least integrated religious group in the country short of the Amish, Mennonites and Jehovah Witness. As a Protestant, I have been in many Catholic Churches for various services. I even shared beer and pizza with a Priest while watching the Watergate Hearings. I once went on retreat at the Abbey of Gethsemani. I have been to a Jewish wedding and my daughter was best friends with a Jewish girl for years and even went to Synagogue with her a few times (they still keep in touch on FB). The point is that Catholics, Jews and Protestants have nothing to hide from each other. The same can not be said of Mormons. The question would not be that Mormons could become allies of Islam, just that they may not choose to be allies of those they do not wish to.
Funny thing that you mentioned Scientology, because I did mention on the thread above the more fantastic portions of Joseph Smith's book actually could have been authored by L. Ron Hubbard.
LOL That’s one funny pic. I bet most people miss W standing outside the window.
